Baseball Drops Non-Conference Contest to Lehigh on Thursday

Box Score

BETHLEHEM, PA – The Saint Peter's University baseball team fell to Lehigh University 10-3 in a non-conference contest on Thursday afternoon. The Peacocks record drops to 0-6 on the season.

"Today we just couldn't get a big hit offensively," said head coach Danny Ramirez. "We left nine players on base and struck out nine times. The pitching needed some run support today, and in order to do that we need to put the ball in play. Defensively, we played well, I saw some improvements there. All in all, it was good for the guys to get out and see some live pitching before the conference opener at Niagara this weekend. They are looking forward to it."

Adam Hernandez (Rutherford, NJ/Rutherford) hit a two RBI triple in the fourth inning to lead the way for the Peacocks. Jesse Matos (Bayonne, NJ/Marist) scored one run and had the final RBI for Saint Peter's in the fifth inning.

Ryan Malloy went 2-for-3 and led Lehigh with four RBI. James Bleming and Jacen Nalesnik each hit solo home-runs for the Mountain Hawks in the win.

Saint Peter's starting right handed pitcher, Kevin Soriano (New Milford, NJ/New Milford) (0-2) received the loss in the game after pitching 2.1 innings and giving up six hits and six earned runs.

Saint Peter's heads to Western New York to open up MAAC play against Niagara University this weekend. The Peacocks and the Purple Eagles will play a three-game series, with a double-header on Saturday April 1 at noon and 2:30pm, and a noon game on Sunday, April 2.
