Box Score PISCATAWAY, NJ – Saint Peter's women's basketball head coach Pat Coyle was honored by Rutgers Athletics and The Varsity R Letterwinners Association with the 1982 AIAW and 1987 Atlantic 10 championship women's basketball teams on Sunday, Jan. 29. Members of the storied 1982 and 1987 teams were introduced at halftime.
Coach Coyle on winning the National Championship:
"Winning a National Championship with the teammates that I had was our ultimate accomplishment. We had worked so hard for so long to be able to achieve our goal. It was truly a team win!"
Coach Coyle on the recognition and reuniting with her old teammates:
"It was wonderful to see so many of my teammates and coaches. We shared so many memories that get better and better as each year passes"
The 1982 Rutgers women's basketball team put together a 25-7 overall mark culminating with the AIAW national championship. Led by a strong senior contingent of June Olkowski Mary and Patty Coyle, Patty Delehanty and Terry Dorner, the Lady Knights defeated powerhouse Texas, 83-77, for the championship title. In the championship game at the Palestra in Philadelphia, MVP Patty Coyle scored a career-high 30 points while Dorner added in 25.
