Opening Word
The Peacocks will travel to Newark to compete against non-conference New Jersey foe, NJIT on Tuesday, October 24.

All-Time vs. NJIT
The Peacocks are 3-12 all-time versus the Highlanders. The last time the Peacocks defeated NJIT was in 2010, winning 3-1 on October 1.

Word on the Highlanders
This is the third time the Peacocks will face NJIT this season. NJIT will enter Wednesday's matchup with an overall record of 10-14. Last time out the NJIT Highlanders fell to USC Upstate, 3-1. Tess Albyn leads the Highlanders with 284 kills. LIz Benson adds the team high of 559 assists while Adrianna Liento leads the team defensively with 373 digs.

Last Time We Met
The Saint Peter's women's volleyball team dropped to a non-conference contest against NJIT, 3-0 (18-25, 23-25, 14-25) September 27 night in the Yanitelli Center. Alexus Sharp led the Peacocks with seven kills. Danielle Lopez followed with five kills and Carolina Ruiz added 14 assists.

Last Time Out
The Saint Peter's University women's volleyball team dropped a conference match to Niagara 3-0 (25-17, 25-16, 25-19) on October 22. Alexus Sharp led the Peacocks posting 12 kills and two blocks for a total of 14 points. Kali Viles and Natalia Carbonell Torres followed adding five kills each, Karla Seda led defensively with 10 digs.

Leading the Squad
Alexus Sharp leads the Peacocks with 137 kills and a total of 47 blocks and 174.5 points. Kali Viles follows with 103 kills, 72 digs and 119 points. Carolina Ruiz leads with adds 168 assists and Karla Seda leads defensively with a team-high of 205 digs while Yaidelis Lopez-Jimenez adds 160 digs.

Welcome Back
Senior, Caitlin Williams,registered 45 kills, 28 assists, 96 digs, 21 blocks and 66 points in the previous season.

Junior, Kenyale McGinnis, was seen in 21 matches totaling 10 kills 87 digs in the previous season.

Sophomore, Danielle Goble, played 17 games adding 51 digs in her first season.

Sophomore, Carolina Ruiz, was seen in 23 games leading the team in assists and digs with a total of  82 assists, 183 digs in her rookie season.

Sophomore, Danielle Lopez,played all 25 games finishing her first season with 76 kills, 128 digs, 33 blocks and 109 points.

Sophomore, Alison Makinen, played 12 games added 42 assists, and 27 digs in her rookie season.

Joining the Flock
Junior, Alexus Sharp, attended Daytona State College in Florida from 2015-16 where she accumulated 95 total blocks and holds the school record for blocks per match and block assist.

Junior, Kali Viles, played the last two seasons at Bloomfield College where she finished with 147 kills and 45 blocks.

Freshman, Imani Spicer, she played varsity for two-years and compiled 501 assists and 291 digs over the course of the two seasons.

Freshman, Natalia Carbonell Torres, in 2016 led the team with 368 blocks and helped lead her team to nationals in Indianapolis.

Freshman, Yaidelis Lopez-Jimenez, was was an important figure to reach seven championships during her senior year where she obtained MVP in one tournament.

Freshman, Karla Seda, helped her team win five consecutive school tournaments and she won two MVP awards.

Freshman, Wildalys Soto, was setter in High School where she participated in many tournaments and obtained multiple championships during her career.

Meet the Coach
Amable Martinez is in his first season with Saint Peter's. He served as the men's volleyball assistant coach at Stevens Institute of Technology during the spring of 2017. There, he helped guide the No. 3 nationally ranked Ducks into the Division III NCAA tournament national semifinal round before falling to the eventual national champions, Springfield College. Under the assistance of Martinez, the team finished the season with a 31-6 record.
Prior to his stint at Stevens Institute of Technology, Martinez served as the head coach of the Bloomfield College women's volleyball team for six seasons. At Bloomfield, he composed a win total of 69 matches, including 20 or more wins in his final two seasons, and a .500 or better record in his final three seasons. In 2015, Martinez led the program to a 24-6 overall record, which was the most wins in program history since joining the NCAA Division II level, and led the Bears to a CACC regular season championship with a 15-4 conference mark, guiding the team to an appearance in the CACC Tournament finals. In the fall of 2016, he recorded his second consecutive 20-win season, as Bloomfield finished the season with 21 wins and its third straight trip to the postseason.

 

From 2005-2011, Martinez was the head girl's volleyball coach at Science Park High School in Newark, NJ. He became a decorated coach at the high school level, raising the program to unprecedented heights during his tenure as he led the school to back-to-back CHC championships in 2007 and 2008. Martinez was also a winner of three-straight Essex County Girls Volleyball Coach of the Year awards from 2007-2009 and he was a two-time Colonial Hills Conference Coach of the Year.
