Jowers Scores Two Goals in Men's Soccer Blowout over Iona on Wednesday

Box Score
JERSEY CITY, NJ – The Saint Peter's men's soccer team earned a, 4-0, blowout win over the Iona Gaels on Wednesday afternoon at Joseph J. Jaroschak Field. Freshman, Jordan Jowers, led the squad with two goals, while Michael Crentsil and Andrew Romero added one goal each in the program's largest win since defeating George Washington 4-0 back on September 27, 2014. The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) win for the Peacocks over Iona was the team's first league win of the year.

"It was a solid effort for us with the quality of goals we scored and keeping a clean sheet at the back," said head coach Julian Richens. "We have been playing well and not got the rewards of results."

In the first half, the Peacocks were in full force as they outshot the Gaels 11-8. Senior back, Crentsil, scored the Peacock's first goal on a header, with the assist coming from classmate Ezequiel Cei in the 31st minute, with less than 10 minutes on the clock in the first half. The Peacocks remained on the attack, adding Jowers first goal of the day, coming by way of a feed from Romero, extending the Peacocks lead over Iona to 2-0.
In the second half of the game, Saint Peter's played well, maintaining the two to nil shutout in a physical half. After over 25 minutes of the same score, Peacock season point leader, Jowers, added the third goal of the game, from Cei's cross, making it a 3-0 game by the 73 minute mark. Just one minute later, after back-to-back Iona corner kicks, Romero scored his first goal of the game assisted by Cei giving the Peacocks a 4-0 lead and win.
Saint Peter's starting goalkeeper, freshman Robbie Anderson, earned his second shutout win of his career, making seven saves in goal.
"I am sure the young group of five-six freshman starters have learnt a lot over the last few games that will help in further games," said Richens. "We are delighted with the efforts of the senior players today who showed their class and quality today."
The Peacocks will travel to West Long Branch, New Jersey to clash with hOURglass Rival, Monmouth on Saturday, October 21. Kick-off is scheduled to start at 7PM.
