Box Score NEW ROCHELLE, NY - The Saint Peter's University women's volleyball team dropped a conference match to Iona 3-0 (25-19, 25-11, 25-11) Sunday afternoon, in the Hynes Athletics Center.
Caitlinn Williams led the Peacocks posting six kills. Natalia Carbonell Torres added four kills and Karla Seda led defensively with 12 digs.
Leaders for Iona were Claire Archibald with 15 kills, Jamie Smith with 13 kills, Emma Rose with 37 assists and Alexandra Russo with 20 digs.
In the first set, The Peacocks trailed the Gaels early at 8-14. The Peacocks eventually started closing in on the Gaels as they trailed three points at 12-15. The Gaels then increased their lead and added five points to their score leading the Peacocks 20-12. Saint Peter's was able to add two points to trail Iona 14-20. Iona finished the set holding the Peacocks to five more points winning the set 25-19.
Saint Peter's got off to a rough start in the second set as they trailed the Gael 3-13. A few points later the Peacocks was able to double their score as they trailed Iona 6-15. The Peacocks went on a 4-2 run as they reached double digits holding the Gaels to two points at 10-17. Iona maintained the lead and the Peacocks added one point before dropping the set 11-25.
In the final set, Iona led the Peacocks by eight at 6-14. The Peacocks cut the deficit as they added three points falling behind the Gaels 9-16. Saint Peters tallied two more points before the Iona won the set 25-11.
The Peacocks will resume play on Saturday at Canisius on October 21 and the following day they will play at Niagara on the 22nd.
