LOUDONVILLE, NY - Saint Peter's women's basketball fell to the Siena Saints, 80-55, on Sunday afternoon in the Alumni Recreation Center. Talah Hughes led the Peacocks with 13 points, while Zoe Pero added 11 points and six rebounds.
"We need to have a better start," said head coach Pat Coyle. "We started the game and the 3rd quarter slowly, which caused us to have to play catch up the entire game."
The Peacocks got off to a rough start as the Saints pulled away with a 10-0 lead halfway through the first quarter. Alyssa Velles knocked down two three-point shots to help the Peacocks cut the 10 point deficit to two. Saints Peter's pulled within two points, 18-16, at the end of the first quarter.
The Peacocks kept pace as they stayed within two points (27-25) with two minutes to go in the second quarter. The Saints outscored the Peacocks 7-3 making the score 34-27 going into halftime.
In the third quarter the Peacocks scored a game-low eight points while the Saints went on to post 23 points, ending the quarter in the lead 57-35.
In the fourth quarter, the Peacocks scored 20 points, its most points of the evening, but Siena added 23 points of their own, not allowing the Peacocks to cut into the lead. The Peacocks eventually fell, 80-55.
Jackie Benitez led the Saints with 20 points and Karolina Severova followed with 13 points.
Next up the Peacocks will return home to host hOURglass rival Rider on Thursday, Jan 19 in an ESPN3 matchup. Tip-off for the women will start promptly at 5pm.
