Box Score JERSEY CITY, NJ – The Saint Peter's women's soccer team dropped its MAAC opener 2-0, to Iona College on Saturday afternoon. The Peacocks record drops to 1-5-1 after the loss.
The Peacocks conceded the first tally to Charlotte Stuart at the 31st minute when Peacock keeper Taylor McLean left the goal to deflect a cross which was deflected to Stuart who found the back of the net for her second goal of the season. With less than five minutes remaining in the half, Saint Peter's Michelle Laz received a red card, forcing the Peacocks to play a man down for the remainder of the contest.
In the second half with a man down, the Peacocks did a great job defensively not allowing the Gaels to run up the score. At the 63rd minute, Emily Hansen managed to find the back of the net after she launched a cross into the box that sailed over the keeper's hand hitting the crossbar and landing into the goal. The play was well defended by the short-handed Peacocks but just managed to make it into the goal.
Iona outshot Saint Peter's 32-to-13 and had a corner kick advantage of 14-to-1.
Peacock goalkeepers Taylor McLean (9) and Kelly Jamison (4), each played 45 minutes and combined for 13 total saves in the loss.
The Peacocks are back in action on Wednesday, September 28 against hOURglass rival, Rider.
