Volleyball Drops League Contest to Quinnipiac

JERSEY CITY, NJ - Quinnipiac tallied its second MAAC win by defeating Saint Peter's volleyball Sunday afternoon in a three-set sweep (25-14, 25-9, 25-13). The Peacocks record drops to 0-7 overall and 0-2 in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC).

Although the Peacocks were not victorious they kept their poise and played with heart. Amanda Colombo served as the go-to player posting stats in almost every category, including a team-best, 9 kills. Marlena Budna followed with 6 kills, and Kaitlyn Sitton added Peacock highs, 15 assists and 9 digs.

Leaders for the Bobcats were Kat Miller with 11 kills, Natalie Alechko with 9 kills and 6 digs, and setter Maria Pansari, with 28 assists and 7 digs.

Saint Peter's got off to a rough start falling behind 6-12 in the first set. The Bobcats maintained a double digit advantage throughout the set, going on to win 25-14.

The Peacocks fought hard in the second set forcing the Bobcats to an early timeout at, 8-9. After a sub change by Quinnipiac, the score elevated to 17-11. Saint Peter's came back with vengeance, pulling within two points, at 15-17, with a sideout and 3-consecutive kills by Meredith Przybocki, Kristina Nieves, and Colombo. The Peacock's would get back to a three-point deficit after Colombo secured two straight kills, making the score 18-21, but Quinnipiac would close out the set on a 4-1 run, ending it at 25-19.

In the third and final set, Quinnipiac jumped out to a 6-1 lead before the Peacocks cut the lead to 7-8. The Peacocks would get as close as five points after a timeout with the scoreboard reading 17-12. The Bobcats used a seven-point run closing out the set 25-13.

The Peacocks will resume play on Sep. 18th against New Jersey foe NJIT, in a rematch of a contest from September 13. NJIT defeated Saint Peter's 3-1 in the first meeting.
