Fourth Straight Overtime Match for Men's Soccer Ends in 1-1 Draw

Box Score

JERSEY CITY, NJ – The Saint Peter's men's soccer team played Hartwick College to a 1-1 draw on Saturday evening in Jersey City at Jaroschak Field. The contest was the fourth consecutive overtime game for the Peacocks with the program going 1-1-2 during the stretch.

"Hard fought game today that went into overtime again and as the game went on it only looked to be one winner," said head coach Julian Richens. "We had three or four great opportunities to take the win, but we unfortunately didn't, but it was clearly important that we didn't put ourselves in position to lose the game."

Senior Luke Fairlamb scored his third goal of the season on a penalty kick at 5:48 to give the Peacocks a one to nil lead. Fairlamb entered the week leading the MAAC in assists and ranking fourth in points. The Peacocks maintained the advantage through the remainder of the first half and into the second period before Johnny McBeth scored the equalizer at the '53 mark. The goal, which was his second of the season, came off of a deflection block that landed in his lap giving him a clear shot at the top left corner of the goal.

Neither team could capitalize in the overtime periods, with Hartwick having five shot opportunities and Saint Peter's having just two in the extra time. Overall in the game, Hartwick outshot Saint Peter's 20-to-8 and posted a 7-to-3 corner edge.

Saint Peter's goalkeeper, Jamie Cleland, who led the MAAC and ranked second in the nation with his 8.00 saves per game, made 10 saves in his fourth start of the season.

The Peacocks record sits at 1-3-2 on the year. The team heads back on the road and will take on St. Francis Brooklyn Wednesday, Sept. 21 at 7p.m.
