Women's Soccer Fall to NJIT in Annual Meeting

NEWARK, NJ – The Saint Peter's women's soccer team gave up six second half goals to fall, 7-0 to NJIT on Monday night in Newark on the campus of Rutgers-Newark. Junior goalkeeper Taylor McLean set a new career record with her 18 saves (was 12 saves) in the defeat, including a career-best first half of 11 saves.

 

The Peacocks only trailed the Highlanders 1-0 at the half, being led by McLean's 11 stops against the 12 shots on goal faced. Alexandria Couto had the lone Saint Peter's shot on goal in the first half, which was saved by the NJIT keeper at the 37th minute. NJIT took a 21-to-1 shot advantage into the break.

 

The Highlanders managed to put together a six goal second half with goals coming from five different players, to help extend the lead to 7-0 and earn the victory.

 

Overall, NJIT ended the game with a 39-to-2 shot, and 25-to-2 shots on goal advantage.

The win for NJIT improves its record to 3-0-1 and the Peacocks fall to 0-2-1.

 

Saint Peter's take the field again on Friday September 2 at home against VMI with kickoff set for 4:00pm.
