Men's Soccer Edged by Seton Hall in Season Opener

Box Score

JERSEY CITY, NJ – The Saint Peter's Men's Soccer team fell 3-1, in the season opener to Seton Hall University. Senior Luke Fairlamb scored the lone goal for the Peacocks in the losing efforts.

"It's a tough start conceding so early and we definitely have to be more compact defensively," said head coach Julian Richens. "We have to make sure we show a little bit more character. We equalized on a very good goal, but to concede pretty quickly after that, we need more character, especially on our home field."

The Pirates scored the fist goal of the evening at the 15-minute mark when Jonathan Jimenez fed Andres Arcila in the box for the goal. 20 minute later, Fairlamb scored the equalizer for Saint Peter's on an unassisted goal after he secured a rebound from junior Ezequiel Cei corner kick. Seton Hall would respond just four minutes later at the 38-minute mark, getting a tally from Brandon Sabinsky for the go-ahead goal.

Seton hall added a security goal in the second half on Arcila's second goal on the day which came by way of a penalty kick after a foul in the box.

"We were down 2-1 at halftime, and chasing in the game," added Richens. "The penalty kick made it safer for them and after that we need to remain more focused, stick to the game plan, play a little quicker, and do a better job giving ourselves a chance of getting back into the game."

Starting goalkeeper Brandon Pereira made four saves in his first collegiate game. Seton Hall doubled up Saint Peter's with a 14-to-7 shot advantage, while both teams had four corners in the game.

The Peacocks drop to 0-1-0 on the season. They are back in action on Wednesday, August 31, when they head to Queens, New York to take on St. Johns at 8:00pm.
