Box Score PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Rutgers defeated Saint Peter's 12-3 in a five-inning, rain-shortened non-conference baseball contest on Tuesday. The game was called after the Peacocks batted in the top of the fifth due to rain once the game was considered an official contest.
Nick Ciocco (Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill) paced the Peacocks (9-40) with a three-run homer while Rob Moore (Ridge, N.Y./Longwood) and Jason Midkiff (Wanaque, N.J./Paramus Catholic) each had a hit and a run scored in the loss.
Gaby Rosa powered the Scarlet Knights (26-26) with three hits, three runs scored and two RBIs. Christian Campbell added two hits, two runs scored and two RBIs while Tom Marcincyk posted two hits, two RBIs and a run scored, and Jawuan Harris registered a hit and two RBIs in the winning effort.
Rutgers scored seven times in the first inning and never looked back to earn its second win of the year against Saint Peter's. The Scarlet Knights defeated the Peacocks 10-1 on May 3 in a seven-inning rain-shortened contest.
Marinczyk got the seven-run first inning started with an RBI double down the right field line. After Milo Freeman hit a sacrifice fly, Luke Bowerbank brought a run home on an infield single and Rosa followed with a run-scoring infield base hit while a second run came home on an error on the play. Harris handed Rutgers a 7-0 lead with a two-run single up the middle.
The Scarlet Knights added four runs in the third. After Rosa doubled home a run, Campbell smacked a two-run double down the left field line and Marcinzyk increased the margin to 11-0 on an RBI single to right field.
Saint Peter's answered with three runs in the fourth. After Moore singled through the left side and Midkiff walked, Ciocco smacked a three-run homer for his third homer of the year to trim the margin to 11-3.
Rosa touched home on a wild pitch in the bottom of the stanza to set the final score at 12-3.
Steve Epstein (Marlboro, N.J./Marlboro) took the loss for the Jersey City team.
The Peacocks return to action on Thursday at Rider to start a three-game series. The two teams will play a single game starting at 1 p.m.
