Box Score NEWARK, N.J. – NJIT defeated Saint Peter's 16-0 in non-conference baseball action on Tuesday.
Nick Ciocco (Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill), Jon Kristoffersen (Jefferson, N.J./Jefferson Township) and Christopher Micak (Edison, N.J./Metuchen) each had a hit for the Peacocks (4-19) in the loss.
Evan Pietronico paced the Highlanders (12-15) with three hits, four RBIs and two runs scored while Michael Anastasia added two hits, three runs scored and two RBIs in winning effort.
NJIT scored in five innings including 10 runs in the fourth and never looked back to defeat Saint Peter's for the second time in a week. The Highlanders defeated the Peacocks 11-7 on Mar. 29.
Bryan Haberstroh got the scoring started with an RBI fielder's choice in the second for a 1-0 lead.
NJIT then erupted for 10 runs in the fourth to grab an 11-0 advantage. Johnny Malatesta started the rally with an RBI single to left field before Anastasia touched home on an error. Jesse Uttendorfer followed with an RBI double to right center before Pietronico smacked a three-run homer to right field. Anastasia followed with a two-run triple to right center and Tom Brady capped the inning with a RBI double to left center.
Cody Kramer registered an RBI single up the middle in the fifth before the Highlanders added three runs in the seventh when Matt McKinnon reached on an RBI error, Pietronico hit an RBI sacrifice fly and Edgar Badaraco had an RBI single to left field to increase the margin to 15-0.
Brady Hall capped the scoring with an RBI single in the eighth.
Ciocco doubled with two outs in the second inning with two outs and Micak advanced to second on a passed ball after a single up the middle with two outs for the only times the Peacocks got a runner in scoring position.
Steve Epstein (Marlboro, N.J./Marlboro) took the loss for the Jersey City team.
Saint Peter's returns to action on Wedneday when Hofstra comes to Jaroschak Field. Game time is 3:30 p.m.
