The Red Foxes won the opener, 9-2.
Assante allowed one run on nine hits with four strikeouts to toss his first career complete-game nine-inning shutout of his collegiate career. With the game tied at 1, Moore singled home Mike Ionta (Westfield, N.J./Westfield) with the go-ahead run in the eighth to lift the Peacocks (8-32, 3-12 MAAC) to the victory and win the three-game series.
James Spadaccini (Butler, N.J./Butler) paced Saint Peter's on the afternoon with five hits, two runs scored and an RBI, including a 3-for-3 performance in the nightcap. In the second game neither team scored until the seventh when both teams posted a run before the Peacocks scored twice in the eighth to secure the victory.
After Marist tied the game in the bottom of the seventh, Ionta doubled to left field with one out in the eighth to start the decisive rally. Kristoffersen singled through the right field to put runners on the corners before Moore found the same hole to bring home Ionta with the go-ahead run and push Kristoffersen to third. Spadaccini then reached on a bunt base hit to score Kristoffersen with an insurance run and hand Saint Peter's a 3-1 lead.
With the two-run advantage, Assante retired six of the final seven batters he faced. He allowed a one-out single in the ninth, but a flyout and pop up ended the game.
After six scoreless innings, the Peacocks got on the scoreboard with a run in the seventh. Spadaccini reached on an infield single and moved to second on an error on the play. A groundout moved him to third before Toole hit a run-scoring single up the middle for a 1-0 edge.
The lead did not last long after Andrew Rouse tied the game on an RBI bunt base hit in the bottom of the inning, but Saint Peter's scored twice in the eighth and went on for the win.
In the opener game of the twinbill, Marist took the lead early in the game and never looked back to even the series at one game apiece.
The Red Foxes scored on an error in the first for a 1-0 lead.
Thanks to a two-run second, the Peacocks grabbed a one-run advantage. Spadaccini single to center and moved to third on Jason Midkiff's (Wanaque, N.J./Paramus Catholic) double to center. With two outs, Toole hit an opposite field RBI single to plate Spadaccini before Cardamone hit a run-scoring single through the left side for a 2-1 advantage.
The margin was short lived after Marist posted four runs in the bottom of the frame. McIntire gave the Red Foxes the lead for good on a two-run single up the middle before Lazar smacked a two-run homer to left for a 5-2 lead.
A John Brucker RBI single and a McIntire RBI double in the fourth gave the Poughkeepsie program a five-run lead. Matt Iantosca added a two-run double down the left field line in the fifth for a 9-2 lead.
Willie Krajnik (Lyndhurst, N.J./Saint Mary's) took the loss in the first game.
