Box Score 2 POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – Marist swept a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) softball doubleheader on Saturday. The Red Foxes won the opener 8-0 in six innings and then took the nightcap in five innings, 22-1.
Schieler Collins (Frisco, Texas/Wakeland) paced the Peacocks (0-22, 0-2 MAAC) with a hit and a run scored while Alyssa Cuevas (Sylmar, Calif./Bishop Alemany), Jackie Riley (South Amboy, N.J./Cardinal McCarrick) and Samantha Storms (Lake Geneva, Wisc./William Bay) each had a hit on the day.
Kyrsten Van Natta paced the Red Foxes (28-8, 5-1 MAAC) with five hits, five runs scored and five RBIs. Rebecca Freeman added three hits, two runs scored and five RBIs while Colleen McWilliams posted three hits, three runs scored and two RBIs and Brittany Colombo had three hits, three RBIs and three runs scored in the nightcap.
In the opener, Marist scored in the final five innings to secure an 8-0 win in six innings.
Brandi Coon got the scoring started in the second with an RBI double in the third before Claire Obendorf scurried home on a wild pitch in the fourth to give the Red Foxes a 2-0 lead.
Coon started a three-run third with a solo homer before Van Natta singled home a run and then Van Natta and Oberdorf pulled off a double steal for the third run and a 5-0 advantage.
Maureen Duddy added a run in the fifth on a bunt single before Freeman hit an RBI single and Janna Korak added an RBI double to end the game at 8-0 in the sixth.
Saint Peter's had a couple chances in the contest. Riley singled in the fourth with two outs to center, but was forced out at second for the final out. Collins was the only Peacocks' player to reach second base with a double with two outs in the sixth, but a fly out ended the threat.
The Red Foxes used an 11 run first inning in the nightcap to power Marist to a 22-1 victory.
Obendorf, Freeman, and McWilliams started the scoring by each hitting a two-run homer in the first. After Van Natta hit an RBI single, Freeman smacked a two-run single up the middle and Korak capped the stanza with a two-run double to right for an 11-0 lead after one inning.
Marist added seven runs in the second. The first two runs touched home on wild pitches before Van Natta smacked a three-run homer while Kourtney Paul and Gabrielle Kelliher each added solo shots to extend the margin to 18-0.
In the third, the Jersey City team got on the scoreboard. Collins and Riley walked before Collins touched home from second when Storms reached on an error. Candice Koch (Orland, Ill./Carl Sandburg) then walked to load the bases with two outs, but a pop out ended the inning.
After Colombo added a solo homer in the third for the Red Foxes, Kelliher went yard for the second time on the day and Colombo followed with a two-run shot for her second homer of as many innings to set the final score at 22-1.
Crystal Carlucci (Iselin, N.J./John F. Kennedy Memorial) took the loss in the opener and Tiffani Lambert (Lincroft, N.J./Middletown South) took the loss in the nightcap.
Saint Peter's heads to Siena on Sunday for a 12 p.m. twinbill.
