Box Score 2 ALBANY, N.Y. – Albany swept a non-conference baseball doubleheader against Saint Peter's on Saturday. The Great Danes won the opener 5-0 and then took the nightcap, 17-5.
Nick Cardamone (Freehold, N.J./Freehold Township) paced the Peacocks (5-25) with three hits, two RBIs and a run scored. Jon Kristoffersen (Jefferson, N.J./Jefferson Township) added three hits, an RBI and a run scored while Tommy Toole (Manasquan, N.J./Manasquan) posted three hits and a run scored on the day.
Patrick Lagravinese powered Albany (12-19) with six hits, three runs scored and two RBIs while Matt Hinchy added three hits, four runs scored and three RBIs in the winning effort.
The Great Danes took the lead in the nightcap and then pulled away after Saint Peter's trim the margin to one run to complete the doubleheader sweep.
Albany took the lead with two runs in second on RBI singles by Lagravinese and Will Miller.
The Peacocks answered with a run in the third. Mike Ionta (Westfield, N.J./Westfield) singled to left field, moved to second on a wild pitch and came around to score on Kristoffersen's run-scoring double to cut the margin to 2-1.
The Great Danes posted three runs in the bottom of the inning to take a 5-1 advantage. Tre Todd hit a two-run triple down the right field line and Karson Canaday singled home a run to cap the three-run inning.
In the fourth, Toole singled up the middle and Griffin Arnott (Brielle, N.J./Christian Brothers Academy) before Cardamone smacked a two-run triple to left center. Angel Perez (Jersey City, N.J./Marist HS) plated Cardamone with a sacrifice fly to cut the deficit to 5-4.
Albany answered with two runs in the fourth to extend the lead to 7-4. Kevin Donati singled home a run and Hinchy hit a sacrifice fly in the stanza.
Saint Peter's posted a run in the fifth to make it a two-run game. Kristoffersen singled to left center, moved to second on groundout and Nick Camilleri (Hasbrouck Heights, N.J./Saint Peter's Prep) brought home Kristoffersen on an RBI single to left center.
A seven-run fifth by the Great Danes gave the hosts a 14-5 lead. Miller started the rally with a two-run single before Kyle Sacks hit a sacrifice fly. A two-run double by Hinchy followed by an RBI double by Evan Harasta and a run scoring on a wild pitch capped the inning.
Albany then added three runs in the sixth to seal the 17-5 victory. A run scored on an error before Matt Codispoti smacked a two-run triple to left center to end the scoring on the day.
In the opener, the Great Danes scored three times in the second and twice in the eighth to earn a 5-0 victory.
Connor Powers gave Albany a 3-0 lead on a three-run homer in the second inning. Canaday hit a sacrifice fly and Lagravinese added an RBI single in the eighth to seal the 5-0 victory.
Saint Peter's had some chances to score in the game, but could not convert. Ionta singled through the right side and Kristoffersen walked to put runners on first and second in the opening frame with one out. After a strikeout, the two runners moved up a base on a wild pitch before a groundout ended the threat.
With one out in the second, Toole and Cardamone each singled with one out, but a strikeout and a foul out got the Great Danes out of the jam.
After Albany scored in the third, Kristoffersen doubled in the sixth, but after a pair of outs Kristoffersen was thrown out at third attempting to steal. Rob Moore (Ridge, N.Y./Longwood) doubled to lead off the ninth and moved to third on a groundout, but two strikeouts ended the game.
John Leiter (Toms River, N.J./Toms River South) and Willie Kranjik (Lyndhurst, N.J/Saint Mary) took the losses on the afternoon.
Saint Peter's returns to action on Sunday in the final game of a three-game series against Albany. Game time is 12 p.m.
