Box Score SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – Seton Hall hit a walk-off double in the bottom of the ninth inning to rally past Saint Peter's 5-4 in non-conference baseball action on Wednesday.
Zach Weigel doubled home Joe Poduslenko, who opened the bottom of the ninth with a walk, on a 0-1 pitch to score the decisive run.
Jason Midkiff (Wanaque, N.J./Paramus Catholic) paced the Peacocks (4-10) with two hits, including a two-run triple in a three-run fifth. Rob Moore (Ridge, N.Y./Longwood) and Nick Ciocco (Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill) each added a hit and a run scored while Mike Ionta (Westfield, N.J./Westfield) had a hit and an RBI and James Spadaccini (Butler, N.J./Butler) also knocked in a run in the loss.
Derek Jenkins paced the Pirates (14-6) with a 3-for-4 performance with two runs scored and an RBI while Chris Chiradio added two hits and a run scored and Weigel tallied a hit, an RBI and a run scored in the winning effort.
Seton Hall jumped out to an early lead and then rallied from a one-run deficit to earn the walk-off victory against Saint Peter's.
The Pirates tied the game at 4 in the seventh on an RBI single through the left side by Mike Caputo and then Weigel sent the home crowd home happy with the game-winning double.
Seton Hall scored the first three runs of the game to jump out to a 3-0 lead. Jenkins stole third in the first and crossed the plate on an error on the play for a 1-0 lead. He then increased the margin to two runs with an RBI single to second base in the second before Jenkins scored the third run on Mikael-Ali Mogues RBI single to first in the fourth.
After the Pirates scored the first three runs of the game, the Peacocks came back to score four runs to take a 4-3 lead.
Ionta reached on a fielding error to open the fifth inning and Ciocco singled through the left side before both runners came home on Midkiff's two-run triple and then Midkiff touched home with the tying run on an RBI groundout by Spadaccini.
The Peacocks then took a 4-3 lead thanks to back-to-back doubles by Moore and Ionta down the right field line, but Seton Hall scored the final two runs to come away with the victory.
Willie Krajnik (Lyndhurst, N.J./Saint Mary) took the loss for the Jersey City team.
Saint Peter's returns to action when it starts Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play at Canisius on Saturday. The two teams will play a doubleheader starting at 12 p.m.
