Saint Peter's Baseball Falls To Stony Brook, 7-3

STONY BROOK, N.Y. – Stony Brook defeated Saint Peter's 7-3 in non-conference baseball action on Friday.

Jon Kristoffersen (Jefferson, N.J./Jefferson Township) paced the Peacocks (1-7) with three hits, a run scored and an RBI while Griffin Arnott (Brielle, N.J./Christian Brothers Academy) added two hits and a run scored and Mike Ionta (Westfield, N.J./Westfield) had a hit, an RBI and a run scored in the loss.

Casey Baker led the Seawolves with two hits, two runs scored and an RBI and Bobby Honeyman added a hit and two RBIs in the winning effort.

Stony Brook took an early three-run lead and then added to its lead after Saint Peter's made it a one-run game to go on for the victory.

The Seawolves jumped out to a 3-0 lead after scoring two runs in the first and one in third.

Andruw Gazzola and Honeyman each hit one to the gap to plate a run in the first before Joe Baran touched home on a balk in the second for a three-run lead.

In the third, Arnott started a two-run rally with a single through the right side and then Angel Perez (Jersey City, N.J./Marist HS) walked. Ionta plated Arnott on an RBI single to center while Perez was thrown out at third base. Kristoffersen then cut the margin to 3-2 on his second triple of the year to score Ionta.

After Saint Peter's made it a one-run game, Stony Brook added a run in the bottom of the third, two in the fifth and one in the seventh to extend the margin to 7-2.

Baker scored on a wild pitch in the third and then started a two-run fifth with an RBI single through the right side before David Real scored on an error for a four-run lead after five innings. Baker doubled in the seventh, moved to third on a balk and touched home on a Honeyman sacrifice bunt.

In the eighth, the Peacocks scored a run. Kristoffersen reached on a his third hit of the afternoon and then moved to second when Nick Ciocco (Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill) walked. With two outs, Nicholas Camilleri (Hasbrouck Heights, N.J./Saint Peter's Prep) plated Kristoffersen on an RBI single to center field to cut the margin to 7-3.

Jake Regina (Rutherford, N.J./Rutherford) took the loss for the Jersey City team.

Saint Peter's returns to action at Fordham on Saturday. First pitch is 1 p.m.
