Box Score After an intense battle in the last ten seconds of the game, the Saint Peter's Peacocks fell to the Rider University broncs 68-67 in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) action on Tuesday.
With 7.2 seconds left on the clock, Talah Hughes (Beacon, N.Y. / Beacon) drained a jumper, bringing the Peacocks to the lead 67-66. The Broncs regained possession and Kimila Hoskova drove to the hole, making the layup with 0.7 seconds left.
Five Peacocks scored in double-figures tonight. Hala Mostafa (Cairo, Egypt / Modern Narmer Language School) paced the Peacocks with 14 points and six rebounds. Sajanna Bethea (Levittown, Pa. / Pennsbury) put up 12 points and eight rebounds. Freshman Janelle Mullen (Ozone Park, N.Y. / The Hun School of Princeton) recorded a career-high 12 points while Talah Hughes tallied 12 points and seven rebounds. Rebecca Sparks (Teaneck, N.J. / Teaneck (Saint Francis)) added 11 points.
Robin Perkins led the Rider Broncs with 26 points and six rebounds. Julia Duggan and Lexi Posset scored 14 points apiece while Kimila Hoskova tallied 10 points.
1ST QUARTER
The teams rallied back and forth in the first quarter. The Broncs took the lead, ending the quarter 15-10.
2ND QUARTER
Posset opened the quarter knocking down a three. A 6-0 run by the Peacocks brought the score to 20-18. Sparks drained a jumper, tying the game at 34-34. The Peacocks went into the third quarter leading by one.
3RD QUARTER
A 6-0 run put the Broncs back in the lead. The Peacocks closed the deficit and were able to edge past the Broncs, ending the quarter 52-50.
4TH QUARTER
A 3-pointer by Hoskova tied the game at 60-60. The teams rallied back and forth until the final ten seconds. A jumper by Talah Hughes put the Peacocks in the lead by one, but Hoskova made a layup with 0.7 seconds left in the quarter, solidifying the win for the Broncs.
The Peacocks will head to Connecticut to face the Fairfield Stags in MAAC action on Friday at 7pm.
