Box Score The Saint Peter's Peacocks (4-23, 2-16 MAAC) were defeated by the Iona Gaels (19-10, 15-3 MAAC) 64-50 in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) on Sunday.
Hala Mostafa (Cairo, Egypt / Modern Narmer Language School) and Sajanna Bethea (Levittown, Pa. / Pennsbury) scored 18 points apiece. Mostafa tallied six rebounds while Bethea added eight rebounds. Rebecca Sparks (Teaneck, N.J. / Teaneck (Saint Francis)) followed with nine points and six rebounds.
Joy Adams paced the Gaels with 20 points and seven rebounds. Alexis Lewis followed with 19 points and seven rebounds. Treyanna Clay added eight points.
1ST PERIOD
Bethea began the game with two field goals. Joy Adams tied the game at 6-6. The Gaels went on a 18-0 run for the rest of the quarter, ending the quarter leading 20-6.
2ND PERIOD
The Peacocks and the Gaels rallied back and forth during the second quarter, both scoring 16 points each. Iona was able to maintain the lead, ending the quarter 36-22.
3RD PERIOD
Saint Peter's went 15-13 against the Gaels in the third quarter. Mostafa ended the quarter with two layups. At the end of the quarter, the Peacocks trailed 37-49.
4TH PERIOD
Lewis started the quarter with a 3-point jumper. The Gaels outscored the Peacocks 15-13 in the fourth quarter. The Peacocks tried to close the gap, but were unable, ending the game 64-50.
The Peacocks play their last home game of the season on Friday against the Manhattan Jaspers at 7pm. Saint Peter's University will also celebrate the seniors on the women's basketball team.
