Box Score FAIRFIELD, CT - The Saint Peter's University Peacocks (4-20, 2-13 MAAC) fell to the Fairfield University Stags (14-10, 9-6 MAAC) 76-49 in Metro Athlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) women's basketball action on Friday.
Talah Hughes (Beacon, N.Y. / Beacon) led the Peacocks with 14 points. Sajanna Bethea (Levittown, Pa. / Pennsbury) and Janelle Mullen (Ozone Park, N.Y. / The Hun School of Princeton) put up eight points apiece.
Casey Smith led the Stags with 21 points. Samantha Cooper followed with 15 points and 11 rebounds while Kristin Schatzlein tallied eight points.
1ST PERIOD
The Stags got off to a fierce start, leaving the Peacocks trailing 13-4 at the end of the first quarter.
2ND PERIOD
The Peacocks attempted to close the gap with field goals by Mullen and Bethea. The Stags later went on a 10-0 run. Hughes hit a jumper and the end of the quarter, bringing the score to 18-36.
3RD PERIOD
Hughes and Samantha Meier (Manalapan, N.J. / Manalapan) put up field goals early in the third quarter. A 9-0 run by the Stags brought the score to 52-26. At the end of the quarter, a jumpshot by Samantha Cooper left the Peacocks trailing 32-64.
4TH PERIOD
Alyssa Velles (Franklin, Conn. / Norwich Free Academy) started the fourth quarter with a 3-point jumper. The Peacocks were unable to catch up, losing to the Fairfield Stags 76-49.
Saint Peter's women's basketball will host the Quinnipiac Bobcats on Sunday at noon.
