BROOKLYN, NY- Talah Hughes led the Peacocks with 17 points in loss against St. Francis Brooklyn (58-52), Sunday afternoon in the Pope Physical Communication Center.
Janelle Mullen and Sajanna Bethea followed Hughes posting 10 points each. Bethea led the Peacocks in three categories registering eight rebounds, three assists, and four steals.
Leading the Terriers was Alex Delaney with 23 points and the team-high of eight rebounds. Olivia Levey followed with 19 points and six rebounds.
The Peacocks came out on fire has they held St. Francis to five points in the first quarter while Talah Hughes and Janelle Mullen added 12 points to the board. In the second quarter, St. Francis fought back as they closed in on Saint Peter's with a 13-11 score, with just under seven minutes. The Peacocks continued to play hard and led 28-20, going into the halftime mark.
Brianna Tarabocchia added an early three in third quarter, followed by
a layup by Ashlie Howell and two jumpers by Mullen, keeping the lead at 37-28. The Terriers would make a run and come back to tie the game at 42 to end of the third quarter.
St. Francis opened the last quarter gaining a six point lead (50-44) with just under seven minutes forcing Saint Peter's into a timeout. Bethea added a free-throw and Hughes added a quick layup, cutting the deficit to three points behind the Terriers. Saint Peter's were unable to to close in as the the Terriers stole the 58-52 win.
"I thought we played well in the first half and executed the game plan," said head coach Pat Coyle. "In the second half we made some mistakes that hurt us and allowed to them getting back in the game."
Next up... Saint Peter's will welcome Fairleigh Dickinson on Tuesday (Dec.13) in the Yanitelli Center. Tipoff is scheduled for 7pm.
