JERSEY CITY, NJ - Saint Peter's women's volleyball salute seniors, Meredith Przybocki and Amanda Colombo on Senior Day as they faced the Siena Saints.
Colombo and Przybocki played in their last collegiate volleyball game this afternoon after their family and friends escorted them out onto the court. The two played with heart and fueled competitive spirits from their fellow Peacocks.
"Today was all about the seniors. They set the tone for how we played and although we didn't win they put on a great battle and should hold their heads high," said head coach Monica Dempsey. "Amanda and Meredith were an honor and pleasure to coach. They are what being a Peacock is all about."
The Saints started the first set leading 6-2 until the Peacocks came back to tie the score 7-7. Siena then pulled away with a 7-point-run to up the score 14-7. A kill by Przybocki kept the Peacocks in the game as they came back to post 11 points against Siena's 15. Unfortunately the Saints held the Peacocks to four more points and finished the set the 25-15.
Just like the first set the Saints started the second set with a strong lead of 7-2 until the Peacocks rallied to an early tie at 8-8. The Peacocks then jumped to the lead 11-9 then advanced to a four-point lead at 14-10. Saint Peter's kept high energy and reached a five point lead 17-12 over the Saints.
Siena managed to make a comeback as they took the Peacocks to an 18 point tie then went on to finish the set 25-22.
The Peacocks got off to a rough start in the third set as they fell behind 11-3 just before the midpoint mark. The Peacocks fought to catch up to the Saints as they defended every round. After the Saints led 20-9 the Peacocks stayed in the game earning points to add to the scoreboard. Saint Peter's added six more points until Siena closed out the game winning 25-15.
Closing out their collegiate careers were Colombo who posted 545 kills, 85 blocks and 690 digs adding a total of 655.5 points and Przybocki who registered 349 kills, 153 blocks totaling 436 points.
Marlena Budna led the squad in 2016 with 156 kills and 91 blocks registering a total of 218 points. Colombo followed Budna with 117 kills, 180 digs, and accumulated 141 points. Kaitlyn Sitton added 380 assists and freshman, Carolina Ruiz led the team with 183 digs.
