JERSEY CITY, NJ - Saint Peter's women's volleyball fell to the Marist Red foxes 0-3 (17-25, 20-25, 19-25) on Saturday afternoon.
Marlena Budna led the Peacocks with five kills and three blocks, posting a total of 8.5 points. Caitlinn Williams followed Budna with four kills and Kenyale McGinnis added a team-high of eight digs.
In the first set, Marist led 4-1 until the Peacocks came back to tie the Red Foxes 5-5. The Red Foxes started to pull away at 11-9 reaching a 5 point lead at 15-10. Saint Peter's fought to catch up as Marist kept the lead throughout the rest of the set, winning 25-17.
The second set, started off slow for the Peacocks as Marist led early at 8-4. The Peacocks continued to fall behind at 10-6 as the Red foxes scored five consecutive points posting a score of 15-6. The Peacocks made a comeback late game at 10-18 and closed in at 15-18. Saint Peter's posted two more points before Marist took the set 25-20.
The Peacocks started off the third set falling behind 1-8. Saint Peter's managed to catch up as they went on a short run to add four points to their score. The Peacocks continued to close the gap as they posted nine points midway and eventually closed in on Marist at 14-15. Saint Peter's kept the gap close as they were only three points behind late game, 17-20. Unfortunately the Peacocks were unable to break the deficit as the Red Foxes finished 25-19.
Saint Peter's will conclude the season and celebrate Senior Day tomorrow, Nov. 13, against Siena.
