Men's Soccer Take First Place Quinnipiac to Overtime on Senior Day

Box Score

JERSEY CITY, NJ – Saint Peter's men's soccer forced Quinnipiac, currently the top team in the MAAC, into overtime, before falling 1-0 on senior day.

"We worked incredibly hard for 90 minutes against the top team in the conference," said head coach Julian Richens. "It was a tough physical battle that was a good MAAC matchup. Unfortunately we couldn't find a way to win it in regulation time and they scored a decent finish to win it in overtime."

Quinnipiac came into the game with the best record in the conference at 6-1 and led the league in goals and points. That did not shake the Peacocks. Saint Peter's battled the highest scoring team in the league for 90 scoreless minutes, only allowing just two shots on goal in regulation. On top of the stellar defense, the Peacocks attack went step for step with the best offense in the MAAC. Luke Fairlamb had two shots on goal that were both saved by Quinnipiac keeper. Louis Mobbs and Ezequiel Cei both added two shots each that could not find the goal.

The game-winning overtime goal came in the 94' and was scored by Matthew Taylor of Quinnipiac to end the game.

"We've got to regroup for our last game against Rider and I am sure we will be ready for it," added Richens.

After facing the top team in the MAAC, the Peacocks now have to close out the regular season at the team currently in second place in hOURglass rival Rider on Wednesday, Nov. 2.
