Women's Soccer Lose at Marist

Box Score

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY – The Saint Peter's women's soccer team was defeated 4-2 by Marist College on Saturday night in Poughkeepsie, NY.

"A disappointing result," said head coach Melissa Sherwood. "The performance from the girls was good. We started the game very well but conceded three soft goals in the first half."

The Peacocks surrendered three goals in the first half, falling behind 3-0. The first goal was conceded at the 9 minute mark, followed by goals at 27' and 37'. The Peacocks were outshot 14-to-3 and 7-to-0 in corners in the first half.

In the second half, the Peacocks put together a comeback run, cutting the match to a one-point deficit. The first goal came from Brooke Trotta, scoring at the 65th minute, on an assist from Genesis Catrellon. At the 78' Castrellon found Alexandria Couto for a goal to cut the match to 3-2. Marist added one more goal to end Saint Peter's hope of a comeback.

"The girls didn't give up though, and they worked hard to get back into the game and bring it back to 3-2," added Sherwood. "Unfortunately, we allowed Marist a soft fourth goal."

The Peacocks finish out the regular season on the road at Quinnipiac on Wednesday Oct. 26 for the season finale.
