Box Score JERSEY CITY, NJ – Saint Peter's men's soccer fell, 2-0, to Marist College on a rainy and windy Saturday afternoon in Jersey City. The setback is the third straight for the Peacocks as the team falls to 2-6 in conference play with just two games remaining on the season.
"Difficult game today, in difficult conditions," said head coach Julian Richens. "We started very strongly, and credit to Marist scoring the decent goal on a decent finish inside the box."
The Peacocks played the Red Foxes tough and by looking at the box score of the game, one would say it was pretty even. Marist totaled 14 shots with six on goal, while Saint Peter's had 13 with four on goal. Saint Peter's recorded six corner kicks, while Marist logged four. Marist goalkeeper Mark Rajovic made five saves, while Saint Peter's keeper Jamie Cleland had four. The only difference in the match was the final score. Another early goal surrendered by the Peacocks is what proved to be the downfall, as Saint Peter's conceded a goal less than 20 minutes into the match for the third consecutive game.
"We couldn't quite find our way through," added Richens. "We couldn't control the tempo of the play, and had a couple of second half chances but Marist defended very well today."
Marist goals came from Simo Lund Jorgensen at 17' and MAAC goal leader Cameron Harr at 89' scoring his league leading 16th goal of the season.
Saint Peter's attack was led by team point leader, Luke Fairlamb who registered five shots with three of them on goal. Louis Mobbs and Gabrielle Bandelli each had three shots for the Peacocks additionally.
The Peacocks have a tough road ahead in the final two matches of the season having to host Quinnipiac on Wednesday, Oct. 26 on senior day and traveling to hOURglass rival Rider on Wednesday, Nov. 2 to close out the season. Quinnipiac and Rider are currently ranked No. 1and No. 2 in the conference respectively.
