Saint Peter's Track And Field Returns From Holiday For The Villanova Open On Friday

On Your Mark:

  • After a one-month break for the holiday, the Saint Peter's track and field team will head to the Villanova Open at the Ocean Breeze Complex in Staten Island, N.Y., on Friday. It will be the squad's third meet of the season and the second at the facility.

Last Time At That Venue:

  • Nkeka Pinheiro placed fifth overall in the 200 meter dash with a time of 26.18. The sophomore ran 58.92 seconds in the 400m, leading the Peacocks in the short sprints. Danielle Correia ran 8.25 seconds in the 60m dash. Monica Rosales paced the Peacocks with a time of 1:24.18 in the 500m dash. Ennica Jacobs ran 8.89 seconds in the 60m hurdles. 
  • Selena Marshall ran 2:22.65 in the 800m race while Jodi Collymore ran a time of 3:16.50 in the 1000m race. Georgie Nicholes set a personal record by six seconds with a time of 10:51.95 in the 3000m.
  • Hajara Abubakar paced the Peacocks for the jumps, jumping 4.46m in long jump and 10.15m in triple jump. Hasaana Smith cleared a height of 1.60m.
  • Shenell Garner threw 15.09m in the weight throw while Aicha Elola threw 11.69 in shot put. 
  • Shaka Shomari paced the men's team in the short sprints running 7.07 in the 60m dash and 21.98 in the 200m dash. Shomari's time in the 200m set a new Saint Peter's indoor record and was an IC4A qualifying time.  Kenneth Brosier ran a time of 49.59 in the 400m dash while Jermaine Lascelles ran 1:04.44 in the 500m race to post an IC4A qualifying time. Percy Martin Oguike ran 8.66 seconds in the 60m hurdles.
  • Senior Lance Weaver ran a time of 2:42.38 in the 1000m race while Johannes Guerrero went 4:54.02 in the mile. 
  • Dominique Ware led the Peacocks in the jumps, jumping 6.20m in long jump and 12.91m in triple. Kurt Espiritu threw 12.53m in shot put.  

Last Time Out:

  • Jermaine Lascelles paced the Saint Peter's men's indoor track and field team with a pair of Top-2 finishes while Britany Maragh notched the lone first-place standing to lead the Peacocks women's indoor track and field team at the Bill Ward Invitational on Dec. 8. Lascelles won the high jump with a leap of 1.95m and placed second in the long jump with a distance of 6.44m. Maragh won the high jump with a height of 1.55m.
  • Lascelles was one of five Saint Peter's participants to win and event on the event. Shaka Shomari won the 200m dash (22.60) and placed third in the 60m dash (7.02) while Dominique Ware was victorious in the triple jump (13.24m) and recorded a third-place standing in the long jump (6.32m). Percy Martin won the 60m hurdles (8.59) and Wellington Brown took home first in the long jump (6.64m).
  • Dexter Valley finished second in the 400m run (51.56) and fifth in the 200m dash (23.31). Nkosi Pile was second in the 60m dash (6.99) and Lance Weaver registered a second-place standing in the 800m run (2:00.18).
  • Christopher Reed placed third in the 60m hurdles (9.45) and Jaylen Correa finished third in the triple jump (11.25m) while David Miller (400m run, 52.43), Kevin Olaya  (800m run, 2:07.29), Bobby MccLinton (200m dash, 23.65) and Kurt Espiritu (shot put, 11.74m) each finished fourth. Michael Marcano (60m dash, 7.07) and Kenneth Brosier (500m run, 1:08.10) each notched a fifth-place standing on the day.
  • Along with Maragh's first-place standing, Ennica Jacob placed second in the 60m hurdles (9.30) and Aicha Elola was second in the shot put (11.71m).
  • Hajara Abubakar notched three Top-6 finishes with third-place finishes in the high jump (1.45m) and the triple jump (10.45m) while placing sixth in the long jump (4.83m). 
  • Jodi Collymore finished third in the 800m run (2:24.85), Adia Ledbetter was third in the shot put (11.37m) and Shenell Garner placed third in the weight throw (13.80m).
  • Chandler Copeland registered a fourth-place standing in the shot put (11.32m) and a fifth-place finish in the weight throw (12.78m). Suzenie St Germain (60m hurdles, 9.33) and Angeline Vargas (high jump, 1.40m) each finished fourth in an event while Danielle Correia finished fifth in the 60m hurdles (9.44) and Georgie Nicholes (1 mile run, 6:04.44), Raquel Henderson (400m run, 1:00.83), Jovanna Larose (800m run, 2:35.56) and Amanda Marcelin (shot put, 10.56m) each notched a sixth-place result.

Last Season @ MAACs:

  • Jennifer Cajou finished second overall in the women's triple jump event with a leap of 11.59-meters. 
  • Meredith Przybocki placed third in the women's high jump with a height of 1.65-meters.
  • Hasaana Smith and Cajou rounded out the top-10 finishes for the Peacocks in the event.
  • Jermaine Lascelles finished tied for second in the men's high jump with a 1.99-meter performance.
  • Aondofa Anyam placed sixth overall in the men's triple jump with a 13.70-meter effort. Lascelles also finished fourth in the men's 400-meter event. 
  • Lance Weaver finished fourth in the 800-meter event, clocking a time of 1:53.97. Jose Mercado placed seventh overall in the men's javelin throw with a toss of 51.41-meters.

About the Coach:

  • Mike Massone enters his ninth season as the head coach of the men's and women's track & field programs in 2015-16. After serving as head coach of the cross country team for many years, Massone now serves as the director of cross country operations.
  • The 2011-12 season saw the Women's team sweep the indoor and outdoor championships, to become just the second MAAC team to ever repeat as both Indoor and outdoor champions after capturing the two titles in 2010-11 as well. The men finished in third place and had six individual champions in both the Indoor and outdoor seasons. 
  • Massone was named the MAAC Women's Coach of the Year award for each season, and has now won five such awards: four on the women's side and one on the Men's side

Keeping it in the Family:

  • Sylvester Inda begins his first season as the cross country head coach and track and field assistant coach in 2015-16. 
  • Inda, a 2011 graduate of Saint Peter's, was a four-year letterwinner on the track and field team and a three-year member of the Peacocks cross country team. He arrived in Jersey City as a sprinter before transitioning to the 800-meter run where he posted a personal-best time 1:55.48. 
  • Shona Potrzuski begins her first season as an assistant track and field coach in 2015-16.
  • Potrzuski, a 2013 graduate of Saint Peter's, was a four-year member of the cross country and track and field teams. Named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Most Outstanding Track Performer in 2012, she won the 400-meter run at the MAAC Championships in 2010 and 2011 and the 400-meter hurdles in 2011 and 2012 during the outdoor season. She also won the 800-meter run during the 2012 indoor championships. Potrzuski qualified for the 2011 NCAA Track And Field Outdoor Regional and anchored the 4x400 relay team at the Milrose Games in 2012. She wrapped up her career by being named the Saint Peter's Female Athlete of the Year at the annual student-athlete award dinner in 2013.
  • A January 2011 graduate of Saint Peter's, Mike Sacca enters his fifth season as an assistant for the cross country team, and second season with the track & field squads.
  • Sacca was a four-year member of both the cross country and track and field teams, and will assume responsibility in the areas of middle and long distance. As a Peacock, he was a three-year member of the MAAC All-Academic team, and also scored in several MAAC championships.
  • J. Mark Korey joined head coach Michael Massone coaching staff in 2014-15.  Korey is a 1971 graduate of Saint Peter's and was a four year member of the cross-country, indoor and outdoor track teams under then Coach Bob Short.
