Box Score The Saint Peter's University Peacocks (4-12, 2-5 MAAC) fell to the Canisius College Golden Griffs (8-8, 3-4 MAAC) 54-42 in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) women's basketball action on Friday.
Sajanna Bethea (Levittown, Pa. / Pennsbury) paced the Peacocks with her second double-double of the season: 19 points and 12 rebounds. Talah Hughes (Beacon, N.Y. / Beacon) followed with 12 points.
Crystal Porter led the Golden Griffs with 12 points. Lauren D'Hont tallied nine points and six rebounds while Tamara Miskovic recorded nine points and five rebounds.
1st period
Bethea tallied eighth points in the first quarter. The teams rallied back and forth, ending with the Peacocks in the lead 12-9.
2nd period
The Peacocks maintained the lead. A free throw by Talah Hughes put the Peacocks up by 10. The Griffs worked to close the deficit. At the end of the quarter, the Peacocks lead 27-21.
3rd period
Lauren D'Hont opened up the quarter with a 3-pointer. Tamara Miskovic drained another three-point jump shot, putting the Griffs in the lead for the first time during the game. The Peacocks were able to stay within a three point deficit for the remainder of the quarter, trailing by one (37-36) at the end.
4th period
The Griffs went on an 8-0 run early in the fourth quarter, bringing the score to 45-36. The Peacocks tried to come back with field goals by Bethea and Hughes, but the Griffs maintained the lead, ending the game 54-42.
