Eight Different Players Record A Goal To Lift Saint Peter's Women's Soccer Past Hampton

JERSEY CITY, N.J. – Michelle Laz (Georgetown, Del./Sussex Tech.), Barbara Paiva (Kearny, N.J./Kearny) and Brooke Tartis (Neptune, N.J./Neptune) each scored two goals apiece, pacing eight different scorers to lift Saint Peter's past Hampton 11-2 in non-conference women's soccer action on Monday.

Tartis notched her first two-goal performance in a Peacocks (1-4-0) uniform in the first half with tallies in the 13th and 43rd minutes while the freshmen duo did their damage in the second half with Laz finding the twine in the 52nd and 53rd minutes and Paiva notching tallies in the 53rd and 55th minutes. Laz, who scored in the second opener against NJIT on Aug. 19, recorded her first two-goal game while Paiva has scored a pair of goals in each of her last two competitions. No player from Jersey City has scored twice in consecutive games dating back to at least the 2004 season.

Carlee Gonzalez (South Plainfield, N.J./South Plainfield) dished out two assists while Genesis Castrellon (Encinitas, Calif./San Dieguito Academy) and Jasmine Diaz (Dix Hills, N.Y./Half Hallow East) each registered a goal and an assist while Symone Sweazie (Bridgeton, N.J./Bridgeton), Alix Couto (Wall, N.J./Wall) and Brooke Trotta (Middletown, N.J./Mater Dei Prep) also found the back of the net in the winning effort.

Sydney Jackson recorded her second career goal and Raven Williams scored her first collegiate tally to pace the Pirates (0-4-0) in the loss.

Saint Peter's scored four times in the first half and seven times in the second stanza en route to the victory in the first meeting against Hampton in program history.

Couto got the scoring started 27 seconds into the match when she took a pass from Castrellon and buried her shot into the top corner for the first score of the day.

Tartis then scored off a corner kick serve from Diaz and the 13-minute mark before Gonzalez recorded assists on the next two markers. The sophomore helped Sweazie register her first collegiate goal when she feed her sophomore classmate at 41:16 before Gonzalez's assist capped Tartis' first two-goal performance for Saint Peter's at 42:48 to give the Peacocks a 4-0 lead at the break.

Laz got the scoring started in the final frame at 51:05 before Paiva found the back of the net at 52:55. Kirsten Mueller (East Northport, N.Y./Commack) served the ball ahead to Laz, who buried her shot for her first career two-goal game. Paiva then competed her second-straight game with two tallies unassisted at 57:10 for an 8-0 advantage.

Castrellon registered her first goal at Saint Peter's unassisted at 64:20 and Diaz recorded her second goal as a Peacock unassisted at 67:11. Nicole Rodriguez (Union, N.J./Union) capped the Saint Peter's scoring when she found the head of Trotta at 71:50 to give Trotta her first collegiate goal and an 11-0 margin.

Jackson put the Pirates on the scoreboard with a penalty kick goal at 75:24 and then Williams added a marker at 85:44 to set the final score at 11-2.

Four different players registered their first points on the day while Saint Peter's scored 11 goals in a game for the first time since defeating Delaware State 11-0 on Sept. 14, 2003.

The Peacocks return to action on Friday at Holy Cross. Match time is 7:05 p.m.
