Paiva Notches First Two Collegiate Goals In Loss At LIU Brooklyn

BROOKLYN, N.Y. – LIU Brooklyn scored the final four goals of the match to upend Saint Peter's 5-2 in non-conference women's soccer action on Friday.

Barbara Paiva (Kearny, N.J./Kearny) made the most of her first collegiate start, notching two goals in a span of two minutes and 30 seconds in the first half.

Kelsey Nugent (Piscataway, N.J./Piscatway) registered her first collegiate assist for the Peacocks (0-4-0) and Taylor McLean (Oakville, Ontario/Holy Trinity Catholic) recorded 12 saves in the loss.

Madison Gomez paced the Blackbirds (2-2-0) with a goal and three assists while Ashley Drozd, Erin Fish, Marian Awad and Allegra Ondrejka each found the twine and Jessica Montrose turned away five shots in the winning effort.

LIU Brooklyn rallied from 2-1 deficit by scoring the final four goals to earn its sixth-straight win in the series.

Paivawho erased an early Blackbirds goal with her first two career markers to give the Peacocks a 2-1 edge.

Trailing 1-0 after Drozd gave the Blackbirds the lead 1:59 into the contest, Paiva took a pass from Nugent for her first goal of the season and Nugent's first point of her career at the 32:21 mark. Paiva then scored two minutes and 30 seconds later unassisted to give Saint Peter's a one-goal edge at 2-1 at the 34:51 mark.

Gomez found the twine with 2:30 left in the first half off an Awad assist to send the game into the intermission tied at 2.

Gomez then had a hand in the three goals in the second half. Gomez found Fish at 52:53 to give LIU Brooklyn the lead for good at 3-2.  She then returned the favor to Awad when the two connected at 76:21 before Gomez and Summer Sofer had helpers on Ondrejka's tally at 80:27 to set the final score at 5-2.

Saint Peter's returns to action for a Labor Day matinee against Hampton at Jaroschak Field on Monday. Match time is 12 p.m.
