Box Score

JERSEY CITY, N.J. – Chris Rodrigues (Union, N.J./Union) and Jack Pounce (Little Chafont, England /Dr. Challoner's Grammar) both scored in the second half to lift Saint Peter's past Rider 2-0 in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) men's soccer action on Wednesday.

Rodrigues and Pounce both notched their first collegiate goals in a span of four minutes and 17 seconds to help the Peacocks (5-3-1, 2-0-0 MAAC) extend its winning streak to four matches and open up league play with two wins. Pounce had five assists as a freshman, but recorded his first point since that campaign with his marker on the afternoon.

Saint Peter's has won four-straight matches for the first time since the 2010 season and started league play with two wins for the first time since the 1991 season.

Luke Fairlamb (Northampton, England/Unity College), who scored in the league opening 2-0 win against Quinnipiac, dished out an assist against the Broncs while Jamie Cleland (Dunfermine, Scotland/Woodmill) made two saves in his second-straight shutout and third of the season. Saint Peter's has recorded back-to-back shutouts for the first time since the 2011 season.

David Pastuna made five stops for Rider (5-4-0, 0-2-0 MAAC) and Adrien Huss had two shots in the loss.

Saint Peter's scored twice in the second half and never looked back to improve to 4-0-1 at home this season.

Fairlamb did most of the work to create an opportunity for Rodrigues. The junior dribbled toward the left post and passed the ball to the right to Rodrigues, who drilled the shot into the netting at the 70:27 mark for a 1-0 lead.

Four minutes and 17 seconds later the Broncs were called for a foul just outside of the penalty box and Pounce pounced on the opportunity hitting a shot to the right of the netminder for a 2-0 lead at the 74:44 mark.

After Saint Peter's scored, Rider only had one shot in the final 30 minutes of the match.

The Peacocks return to action on Saturday at Marist. Match time is 2 p.m. It will be a battle of 2-0 teams after the Red Foxes came away with a 3-2 win against Canisius on Wednesday.
