Box Score JERSEY CITY, N.J. – Alix Couto (Wall, N.J./Wall) scored the game-winning goal in the 58th minute to propel Saint Peter's past Delaware State in non-conference women's soccer action on Thursday.
After the Hornets (2-8-1) tied the game in the 50th minute, Couto found an open net with the goalkeeper out of the play and beat the defender to rocket a shot into the top right netting for the decisive goal at the 57:17 mark to hand the Peacocks (2-6-1) its second win of the year.
Brooke Tartis (Neptune, N.J./Neptune) notched the first Saint Peter's goal of the afternoon while Kelly Jamison (Jackson, N.J./Jackson Memorial) made three saves to record her first win in a Saint Peter's uniform.
Taylor Addison recorded the tally for Delaware State and Michele Lammers turned away four shots in the loss.
After the Hornets defeated the Peacocks last season in Dover, Del., Saint Peter's scored a goal in each half to earn its second win of the year against a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference program. The Jersey City team defeated Hampton 11-3 on Sept. 7.
Brooke Trotta (Middletown, N.J./Mater Dei) helped get the scoring started when she found Tartis, who knocked the ball into the right netting at the 10:04 mark for a 1-0 lead.
The advantage would hold up until early in the second half when Addison took a serve from Ayanna Smith for a tally at 49:02 to tie the match at 1.
Couto then took advantage of the goalkeeper being out of position to find the open net in the 58th minute to give the Peacocks the victory.
Couto and Tartis have scored in both of Saint Peter's wins this season.
