Box Score Saint Peter's (1-8, 0-1) 1, Rider (6-6, 2-0) 3
The Saint Peter's Women's Volleyball team lead by Head Coach Monica Dempsey played their first conference game on Wednesday night, as they hosted the Rider Broncos. After a hard fought battle, they would eventually get swept in three consecutive sets giving the Broncos the shut out.
In the first set of the match, it looked as though the Peacocks might get off to an early lead. After going back and forth with Rider for majority of the set, the Peacocks pulled away late and got ahead by a score of 24-21, only needed one more point to get the 1-0 lead. However, the Broncos behind the efforts of Hailey Riede came roaring back and would pull off the comeback, winning the set 26-24.
After being down 1-0, the Peacocks had some making up to do. As the continued the common theme of trading points back and forth, they Peacocks once again would falter late in the set, getting them behind by a score of 2-0.
In the third set of the match, SPU had their backs against the ropes and were in jeopardy of receiving their first conference loss of their MAAC schedule. They were able to get the score in their favor, to 18-15 from an Amanda Colombo kill. However an eight point run by the Broncos would put them right back behind with a 23-19. Only needing two more points, Rider had a little wiggle room but would eventually go on to win the set 25-22, and get the win over the Peacocks by a score of 0-3.
The Peacocks will be back in action on September 26, at 3:30pm as they're hosting the Siena Saints in their second conference match of the 2015 season.
