Box Score Saint Peter's (2-3-1) 2, Sacred Heart (1-4-1) 1
The Saint Peter's University Men's Soccer team hosted the Sacred Heart Pioneers at Jaroschak Field on Wednesday afternoon, and were able to add the second win of the season onto their record. Ezequiel Cei and Luke Fairlamb were both able to bury goals in the contest, both of them coming on Penalty Kicks. It was Cei's fifth goal of the season, which leads the Peacocks, and Fairlamb's second.
The first goal of the match came at the 21-minute mark, off the foot of Luke Fairlamb. After a foul occurred in the box, the officials awarded the Penalty Kick to Fairlamb who took advantage of the opportunity. This gave the Peacocks the 1-0 lead, and that score would remain the same up to the halftime mark.
The Peacocks weren't about to stop there however, as only one minute into the second half Saint Peter's was awarded another Penalty Kick. This time it was Ezequiel Cei taking the shot for the Peacocks, and he would notch his fifth goal of the season. Cei has scored in five of the six games the Peacocks have played, and has now scored in three straight. Additionally, Cei is the MAAC leader in goals in non-conference games.
SPU had two-goal lead, however the game still had majority of the second half to be played. The Pioneers wouldn't go down without a fight and shortly after Cei's goal, they would post a goal of their own on the scoreboard. Shaquille Saunchez was the goal scorer, and would help SHU cut into the Peacocks lead.
Saint Peter's was able to put their foot down for the remainder of the second half, behind solid play from both their defense and keeper. They wouldn't allow any more goals, and would keep the 2-1 all the way up to the 90-minute mark. The Peacocks earned their second victory of the season, and would go on to improve their record to 2-3-1.
The Peacocks will take the pitch again on September 20 at 2pm, as they host LIU Brooklyn for their final non-conference matchup.
