Saint Peters 1, St. Francis Brooklyn 1
Head Coach Julian Richens and the Men's Soccer team took the pitch at Jaroschak Field Saturday afternoon, against the Terriers of St. Francis Brooklyn. The first half was rather quiet on the scoring front, but the second half would be different. Each team would register a goal in the second half, making the score 1-1 when the 90-minute mark struck. The game would need both overtime periods, although eventually there would be no more goals, resulting in a 1-1 tie.
The first half of the match was relatively quiet as far as scoring goes, but certainly not regarding the action. After three valid scoring opportunities by each squad, the keepers squandered all of them. The Peacocks and the Terriers battled on the pitch up and down the field, which set up for an exciting second half.
In the second half, it was the Peacocks that would post the first goal on the scoreboard, coming in the 61st minute. This was not only the first goal of the game, but it was the first goal the Terriers keeper Jack Binks has let up in the 2015 season. It was the sophomore
Ezequiel Cei with the goal, with a team leading four goals. Cei has had a goal in four of the Peacocks five games this season.
Having a one-goal lead with the game coming down to the wire, the Terriers scratched and clawed in order to avoid their first loss of the season. Senior midfielder Vincent Bezecourt would tie the game on a free kick in the 65th minute, making the score knotted up at 1-1.
At the 90-minute mark, the scores would remain tied and would move forward towards an overtime period. After a couple chances put on net by both teams, the first overtime period would expire and would head towards a second overtime.
It was more of the same in the second overtime, and the game would end in a 1-1 draw giving the Peacocks their first tie on the season. This match brings the Peacocks record to 1-3-1 on the 2015 season.
The Peacocks will take the pitch at Jaroschak Field on September 16 against Sacred Heart at 4PM. This will be their second to last match before MAAC conference play begins.
