Box Score FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Fairfield downed Saint Peter's 4-1 to complete a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) baseball three-game sweep on Sunday.
Zach Rawson (Ashburn, Va./Broad Run) led the Peacocks (9-30-1, 7-11 MAAC) with a hit and an RBI while James Spadaccini (Butler, N.J./Butler) went 3-for-3 on the afternoon.
Troy Scocca paced the Stags (14-28, 6-12 MAAC) with three hits, two runs scored and a n RBI while Michael Conti added two hits and an RBI. Kyle Dube allowed one run on six hits with two strikeouts in the winning effort.
Fairfield grabbed the advantage midway through the game and padded its lead with runs in the seventh and eight to sweep the season series for the second-straight season against Saint Peter's.
After the Peacocks threatened with runners on the corners with out one and could not score in the top of the fifth, the Stags grabbed a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the fifth thanks a leadoff solo homer by Scocca and a Conti RBI single to left center.
Jon Kristoffersen (Jefferson, N.J./Jefferson Township) walked in the sixth and came around to score on Rawson's run scoring double to cut the margin to 2-1.
Alex Witkus increased the lead to 3-1 with a sacrifice fly in the seventh and Dan Hopkins added an RBI single through the left side in the eighth to seal the 4-1 victory.
Anthony Assante (Brick, N.J./Brick Memorial) took the loss for Saint Peter's after allowing three runs on seven hits with two strikeouts in 6.1 innings of work.
The Peacocks return to action on Tuesday with two games at Rutgers. The two teams will complete its April 22 contest that was halted because of weather starting at 12 p.m. The Scarlet Knights led that contest 3-0 in the top of the sixth before rain, thunder and lightning stopped the game. The two teams then will play its originally scheduled contest after the completion of the halted game.
