Marist Takes Two From Saint Peter's Softball On Senior Day

JERSEY CITY, N.J.- Marist defeated Saint Peter's in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) softball doubleheader on Senior Day. The Red Foxes won the opener 11-9 and the defeated the Peacocks in the second game 15-2, in the season finale for both teams. 

Kirsten Kelly (Seaford, N.Y. / General Douglas McArthur) went for 4-of-6 with one RBI and one run scored. Lee Harrison finished with two hits, two RBIs and two runs scored while Taylor Corretjer (Thiells, N.Y. / North Rockland) tallied two hits, two RBIs and one run scored in the double dip.

Gabrielle Kelliher fueled the Red Foxes (28-26, 11-9 MAAC) with four hits, nine RBIs and four runs scored. Samantha Reilley finished with three hit, four RBIs and four runs scored in the sweep. 

Marist rallied back with four runs in the sixth inning to down the Peacocks (2-40, 1-19 MAAC) in the opener 11-9.

After exchanging three-and-outs in the first inning, Marist got on the board first in the second inning. With the bases loaded, Jordynn Barrer was hit by a pitch to advance to first and score the runner at third. 

Saint Peter's countered with three runs in the bottom of the inning, started by a two-run homer from Lee Harrison (Las Vegas, Nev. / Coronado). Later in the inning, Corretjer singled to score Crystal Carlucci (Iselin, N.J. / John F. Kennedy Memorial) for the 3-1 lead.

The Red Foxes regained the third inning with a pair of homeruns from Kyrsten Van Natta and Kelliher. 

The Peacocks scored three runs in the bottom of the inning to retake a lead. Following a leadoff double from Carlucci, Kelly singled up the middle for the RBI. Two batters later, Corretjer doubled to center to advance Kelley around the bases. Next at-bat, Candice Koch (Orland Park, Ill. / Carl Sandburg) hit an RBI-single to give the Peacocks the 6-4 lead.

Marist got back a run in the fifth, following an RBI single from Kelliher. In the sixth, the Red Foxes scored four runs on five hits and would take the lead for good. 

Saint Peter's cut into the margin in the bottom of the inning following a two-run double from Francesca D'Amato (Lyndhurst, N.J. / Immaculate Conception).

Marist added insurance in the seventh with two runs to extend the lead. The Peacocks got back a run in the bottom of the seventh, but would not be enough to complete the comeback. 

Carlucci took the loss on the mound in the first game.

In the second game, Marist scored 10 runs in the fourth inning to secure a 15-2 victory in five innings. 

Marist took a 1-0 lead in the opening inning following a sacrifice fly from Kelliher.

Saint Peter's tied the game in the third inning, powered by an RBI single to left from Shamar Sanchez (Levittown, N.Y. / Island Trees).

The Red Foxes scored 10 runs in the fourth inning, fueled by a grand slam left from Samantha Reilly and two RBIs from Janine Lalii. Marist added four more runs in the fourth inning en route to the 15-2 victory.

Tori Feorenzo took the loss on the mound in the second game.

Saint Peter's finishes the 2015 season 2-40 overall and 1-19 in league play.
