Box Score 2 FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Fairfield swept a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) baseball doubleheader against Saint Peter's on Saturday. The Stags won 13-3 in the opening and then took the nightcap, 3-1.
Nick Henriquez (Paramus, N.J./Paramus) paced the Peacocks (9-29-1, 6-11 MAAC) with three hits, two RBIs, a run scored including a solo homer in the nightcap. Zach Rawson (Ashburn, Va./Broad Run) posted two hits and an RBI while Kyle Grimes (Iselin, N.J./JFK Memorial), Chris Hugg (Ironia, N.J./Randolph) and Rob Moore (Ridge, N.Y./Longwood) each added two hits and a run scored on the afternoon.
Sebastian Salvo powered Fairfield (13-28, 6-11 MAAC) after going 3-for-3 with three RBIs and two runs scored in the opener while Jake Salpietro added two hits, three RBIs and two runs scored in the first game. Mike Wallace allowed one run on six hits with five strikeouts in a seven-inning complete-game effort in the nightcap.
The Stags scored two runs in the bottom of the second inning to take the lead they would not relinquish and held on for a 3-1 win in the nightcap.
After Henriquez tied the game with a solo homer in the top of the second, Fairfield scored twice in the bottom of the frame on an RBI single by Michael Conti and a Mac Crispino run-scoring groundout for a 3-1 lead.
Saint Peter's threatened in the fifth after loading the bases on three-straight singles by Rawson, Jose Martinez (Brown Mills, N.J./Remberton Township) and Moore, but a double play and a groundout ended the threat and the Stags held on for the two-run victory.
Fairfield scored a run in the first on a Brendan Tracy RBI single. Henriquez tied the game to lead off the second, but the Stags answered right back in the bottom of the inning and went on for the victory.
John Leiter (Toms River, N.J./Toms River South) was the hard-luck loser in the second game, allowing three runs on eight hits with five strikeouts in six innings of work.
Fairfield jumped out to the early lead in the opener and never looked back to earn the 13-3 victory.
The Stags got the scoring started in the first inning with four runs. Tracy smacked a two-run triple and scored on an error on the play before Salpietro drilled a solo homer for a 4-0 lead.
The Peacocks responded with a run in the second. Hugg singled through the left side and touched home on Henriquez's RBI double to cut the margin to 4-1.
Fairfield then posted six runs in the fourth to grab a 10-1 advantage. Conti started the rally with an RBI double before Salvo added a two-run single, Salpietro smacked a two-run double and Hopkins capped the six-run outburst with an RBI single.
Saint Peter's registered a run in the seventh after Rob Moore double down the right field line and came around to score on Rawson's RBI double to the opposite field.
The Stags answered right back with two runs in the seventh after Conti scored on a wild pitch and Salvo plated a run on an RBI double for a 12-2 margin.
The Peacocks scored in the eighth thanks to Grimes singling through the right side and touching home on Jon Kristofferson's (Jefferson, N.J./Jefferson Township) run-scoring triple to left center.
Bill Zolga doubled home a run in the bottom of the eighth to set the final score at 13-3.
Kevin Soriano (New Milford, N.J./ New Milford) took the loss for Saint Peter's.
The Peacocks and Fairfield conclude the three-game series on Sunday in Fairfield. First pitch is 1 p.m.
