Box Score 2 JERSEY CITY, N.J. – Delaware swept Saint Peter's in a non-conference doubleheader on Wednesday. The Blue Hens won the opener 15-0 and defeated the Peacocks in the second game 12-4.
Samantha Storms (Lake Geneva, Wis. / William Bay) paced the Peacocks (2-38) with two hits, four RBIs and one run scored. Candice Koch (Orland Park, Ill. / Carl Sandburg) finished with two hits and one run scored while Nicole Feoli (Burlington Twp, N.J. / Burlington) and Nicole Olmedo (Chino, Calif. / Chino) each recorded a hit in the twinbill.
Carolyn Szymanski powered the Blue Hens (29-21) with five hits, seven RBIs and three runs scored. Leanna Gearheart posted six hits, five RBIs and five runs scored in the sweep.
Delaware had the offense going in the first game to defeat Saint Peter's in the opener 15-0.
The Blue Hens scored five runs in the first inning, powered by RBI base hits from Mariah Kondravy and Lisa Stacevicz. The scoring was capped off by a two-run homer from Syzmanski.
Delaware added four more runs in the second inning. Gearhart doubled to right to score Shelby Jones, followed by an RBI single from Kondravy to score Gearhart. Later in the inning, Syzmanski hit a two-run single to give the Blue Hens a 9-0 lead.
The Blue Hens scored six more times in the fourth inning, powered by homeruns from Sarah Bencivenga, Syzmanski and Gearheart to secure the win in five innings.
Crystal Carlucci (Iselin, N.J. / John F. Kennedy Memorial) took the loss on the mound in the opener.
In the second game, Delaware picked up where they left off offensively for a 12-4 win.
Delaware scored two runs in the first inning following a two-run homerun from Bencivenga for the 2-0 lead.
The Blue Hens tallied two more runs in the third inning, fueled by back-to-back RBI singles from Jessica Grisler and Gearheart. The team added a run in the third, following an RBI triple from Stacevicz.
Saint Peter's scored its first runs of the afternoon in the third inning, fueled by a grand slam from Storms.
Delaware countered with four runs in the fourth inning and scored three more runs in the sixth en route to the 12-4 victory.
Tori Feorenzo (Paramus, N.J. / Paramus) took the loss on the mound.
Saint Peter's returns to action on May 3, when they wrap up the regular season at home on Senior Day against Marist. First pitch is set for 12 p.m.
