Siena Takes Rubber Game Of Three-Game Series Against Saint Peter's Baseball

JERSEY CITY, N.J. – Siena took the rubber game of a three-game Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) baseball series 11-2 against Saint Peter's on Sunday.

Jose Martinez (Brown Mills, N.J./Remberton Township) paced the Peacocks (8-26-1, 6-9 MAAC) with two hits and an RBI while Chris Hugg (Ironia, N.J./Randolph) added two hits and a run scored and Nick Henriquez (Paramus, N.J./Paramus) registered a hit and an RBI in the loss.

Joe Drpich powered the Saints (15-21, 8-4 MAAC) with three hits, three runs scored and two RBIs. Ryan Stefaniak posted three hits, three RBIs and a run scored while Dave Hoffmann added two hits, two runs scored and two RBIs and Dan Swain had two hits, two RBIs and a run scored.

Siena scored seven runs in the top of the first and never looked back to take the series with an 11-2 win after the two teams split the doubleheader on Saturday.

The Saints posted seven runs on seven hits in the first inning. Brian Fay got the scoring started with an RBI double before Hoffmann hit a two-run double to left field and Drpich plated Hoffmann with a double of his own. Stefaniak added a run-scoring single to right field and Swain doubled home two runs for a 7-0 lead.

Saint Peter's got on the scoreboard with two runs in the bottom of the first. With two outs, Hugg singled through the left side and Rob Moore (Ridge, N.Y./Longwood) walked. After Henriquez plated Hugg with an RBI single up the middle, Martinez plated Moore with an opposite field RBI double to cut the margin to 7-2.

Drpich smacked a solo homer to right in the fifth to increase the Siena lead to six runs. The Saints added a run in the sixth when Justin Esquerra plated a run when he hit into a double play for a 9-2 lead.

Stefaniak capped the 11-run outburst with a two-run single in the seventh to set the final score at 11-2.

Mark Wilson (Clark, N.J./Arthur L. Johnson) took the loss for the Peacocks. Saint Peter's is now 0-5 in the final game of a league series and 5-4 in the first two games.

The Peacocks return to action on Tuesday at NJIT. Game time is 6 p.m.
