Box Score 2 BUFFALO, N.Y. – Canisius swept Saint Peter's in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) softball doubleheader on Saturday. Canisius defeated the Peacocks in the opener 10-2 and won the second game 9-0.
Candice Koch (Orland Park, Ill. / Carl Sandburg) paced the Peacocks (2-34, 1-15 MAAC) with two RBIs on the afternoon. Crystal Carlucci (Iselin, N.J. / John F. Kennedy Memorial) finished with two hits, while Francesca D'Amato (Lyndhurst, N.J. / Immaculate Conception) and Taylor Corretjer (Thiells, N.Y. / North Rockland) tallied one hit and one run scored in the twinbill.
Jessica Berzins fueled the Griffs (21-14, 10-2 MAAC) with four hits, two RBIs and three runs scored. Michelle DelPrince posted three hits, five RBIs and two runs scored.
Canisius used an 8-run second inning to pull away for the 10-2 victory in five innings.
Saint Peter's took a 2-0 lead in second inning following a two-run double to right field to score Corretjer and D'Amato.
The Golden Griffs scored its first run in the second inning following a drawn walk from Tori Nappo to scored a runner. Next at-bat, Bethan Demarco singled to right field to score. Megan Cuda and DelPrince hit consecutive RBI hits.
Canisius added two more runs in the fifth inning off a two-run homerun from DelPrince to secure the 10-2 victory.
In the second game, Canisius scored in the second and third innings en route to a 9-0 victory.
The Griffs scored six runs in the fifth inning. The offense was powered by RBI hits from Samatha Sharkey, Nappo, DelPrince and Alexis Roman.
Canisius tacked on three more runs in the third inning, powered by a three-run homerun from DelPrince to secure the 9-0 victory.
Tori Feorenzo (Paramus, N.J. / Paramus) took the loss on the mound in the second game.
Saint Peter's returns to action on Aor. 29 with a midweek doubleheader at home against Delaware. First pitch is slated for 12 p.m.
