Saint Peter's Baseball Scores Final Seven Runs To Rally Past Fairleigh Dickinson, 13-7

TEANECK, N.J. – Chris Hugg (Ironia, N.J./Randolph) powered a five-run sixth with a three-run homerun to propel Saint Peter's to a 13-7 victory against Fairleigh Dickinson in non-conference baseball action on Tuesday.

After the squad tied the game aided by an error, Hugg smacked a three-run homer to right center to give the Peacocks (7-24-1) the lead it would not relinquish.  Hugg was 1-for-4 with four RBIs.

Jon Kristoffersen (Jefferson, N.J./Jefferson Township) was 3-for-4 including a homer while adding three RBIs and three runs scored.

Christopher Micak (Edison, N.J./Metuchen) added two hits, including his first collegiate home run, along with two RBIs and a run scored. Nick Cardamone (Freehold, N.J./Freehold Township) tallied a hit and three runs scored while senior Jason Midkiff (Wanaque, N.J./Paramus Catholic) pitched the final 4.1 innings pitch allowing no runs on three hits with two strikeouts to earn his first collegiate win.

Patrick McClure and Ryan MacNaighton paced the Knights (11-17) with two hits, two runs scored and an RBI each while Shane Siebler posted two hits, a run scored and an RBI and Joel Roman had two hits and an RBI.

Saint Peter's rallied to take the lead two times against Fairleigh Dickinson and posted the final seven runs to earn the win and split the season series. The Knights won the first game between the two teams 6-5 on Mar. 17.

After Fairleigh Dickinson scored three times in the fifth to retake the lead at 7-6, the Peacocks scored five runs in the sixth to take the lead for good at 11-7.

James Spadaccini (Butler, N.J./Butler) started the rally when he reached on an error and Cardamone followed with a walk. Kristoffersen reached on a bunt base hit while Spadaccini touched home on an error on the play. Hugg followed with an "Earl Weaver three-run special" to give Saint Peter's a 9-7 edge. With two outs, Zach Rawson (Ashburn, Va./Broad Run) walked and came around to score after Micak reached on a single courtesy of an error.

The Peacocks added a run in the seventh. Spadacini and Cardamone opened the inning with singles before Kristoffersen reached on a walk to load the bases. Hugg then plated Spadaccini on an RBI fielder's choice ground out for a 12-7 margin.

After Vinny Maietta (Franklin Square, N.J./St. Marys) doubled down the left field line in the eighth, pinch runner Sean Henry (Brick, N.J./Brick Township) touched home on Nick Henriquez's (Paramus, N.J./Paramus) opposite-field run-scoring single to set the final score at 13-7.

The Knights grabbed a 4-0 lead after scoring two runs in each of the first two innings.  McClure and Roman got the scoring started with a pair of RBI doubles in the first. Siebler added an RBI double and Dylan Sprague had a run-scoring single in the second to give Fairleigh Dickinson a four-run lead.

Cardamone helped Saint Peter's get on the scoreboard in the third when he walked, moved to second and came around to score on Kristoffersen's RBI single to left center before Maietta brought home Kristoffersen home on a sacrifice fly to center to trim the margin to 4-2.

Cardamone was the catalyst to help the Peacocks tie the game in the fourth. The junior reached on an error and came around to score on Kristoffersen's two-run homer to tie the game at 4.

Saint Peter's grabbed a 6-4 edge in the fifth. Maietta walked before Micak smacked a his first career homer, a two-run shot, to center to give the Peacocks a two-run lead.

Fairleigh Dickinson momentarily retook the lead with three runs in the fifth. Jason Fatzinger brought a run home when he grounded into a double play before MacNaughton doubled home a run and Chris Grupp capped the three-run inning with an RBI single up the middle to hand the Knights a 7-6 lead.

Saint Peter's then scored the final seven runs of the game to come away with the 13-7 victory.

The game was originally scheduled to be play at Jaroschak Field in Jersey City, but the rain that came into the area on Monday moved the game to Teaneck due to field conditions.

The Peacocks return to action at Rutgers on Wednesday. Game time is 3:30 p.m.
