Carlucci Leads Saint Peter's Softball To 12-8 Victory Over Rider; Broncs Take Second Game 9-2

JERSEY CITY, N.J. – The Saint Peter's softball team split a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) doubleheader against Rider on Sunday. The Peacocks won the opening contest 12-8 before falling in the second game, 9-2. 

Crystal Carlucci (Iselin, N.J. / John F. Kennedy Memorial) fueled the Peacocks (2-30, 1-13 MAAC) with three hits, two homeruns, two RBIs and two runs scored. Samantha Storms (Lake Geneva, Wis. / William Bay) recorded four hits, two runs, three RBI and three runs scored in the twinbill.

Dana Sensi led the Broncs (9-27, 4-8 MAAC) with four hits, one RBI and two runs scored. Kim Valdes posted three hits and two RBIs while Delany DeMello tallied three hits, one RBI and one run scored in the doubleheader. 

In the opening game, Saint Peter's used a three-run fourth inning to take the lead and not look back en route to a 12-8 victory.

Rider got on the board on the first at-bat of the game following a solo homerun to left field from Amanda Irving for the 1-0 lead. 

Saint Peter's countered with two runs in the bottom of the inning, powered by a two-run homerun from Storms for the 2-1 advantage.

The Broncs regained the lead in the second inning with scoring three runs. Amanda Crimarco singled to left center to score Morgan DiVello. Later in the inning with the bases, Valdes reached bases on a fielder's choice while scoring Montana Berg. Following at-bat, Sensi singled through the left side to add another score for the 4-2 lead. 

The Peacocks got a run back in the bottom of the inning following a solo homerun from Carlucci.

Saint Peter's knotted the contest at 4 following Carlucci's second homerun of the contest. Later in the inning, Taylor Corretjer (Thiells, N.Y. / North Rockland) hit the go ahead runs off a two-run double for the 6-4 edge. 

Rider trimmed the deficit in the fifth inning following a homerun from DeMello.

The Peacocks answered in the bottom of the inning from a three-run homerun from Nicole Feoli (Burlington Twp, N.J. / Burlington).

The Broncs tallied three scores in the sixth inning, powered by a three-run homerun from Emily Cottrell to cut the deficit.

Saint Peter's added insurance in the sixth with a two-run homer from Lee Harrison (Las Vegas, Nev. / Coronado) to left field to secure the 12-8 win. 

Carlucci got the win on the mound, pitching in all seven innings with three strikeouts.

In the second game, Rider held the Peacocks to four hits in a 9-2 victory. 

Saint Peter's took the lead in the first inning. With runners on second and third, Harrison hit a RBI single to third that advanced Candice Koch (Orland Park, Ill. / Carl Sandburg) around the bases for the 1-0 advantage.

Rider took the lead for good following a four-run third inning. The Broncs scored on consecutive at-bats to take a 4-1 lead. 

The Broncs added another score in the sixth inning, following a sac fly from Valdes to score Morgan Benedetti.

Saint Peter's got back a run in the bottom of the inning off a solo homerun from Storms.

Rider tallied four runs in the seventh to pull away for the 9-2 victory. 

Saint Peter's returns to action on Apr. 21 for a weekday doubleheader against Fairleigh Dickinson. First pitch is set for 12 p.m.
