Box Score LOUNDONVILLE, N.J. – Siena defeated Saint Peter's 64-47 in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference women's basketball contest on Sunday afternoon.
Alyssa Velles (Franklin, Conn. / Norwich Free Academy) scored a team-high 12 points, while Sajanna Bethea (Levittown, Pa. / Pennsbury) posted 11 points and six rebounds.
Megan Donohue and Symone Kelly paced Siena (18-11, 11-9 MAAC) with 15 points each, while Ida Krogh tallied 13 points, six rebounds and five assists in the win.
Siena used a strong second half run to pull away from Saint Peter's (4-25, 4-16 MAAC) and earn the season-sweep.
Saint Peter's began the second half on a 7-3 run, capped off by a three from Velles, to take a 31-30 edge with 17:05 remaining in the game. Siena countered with a 13-5 run to take a 43-36 lead.
The Peacocks cut the margin to one at the 9:52 mark with six straight points. After exchanging baskets from the line, the Saints outscored the Peacocks 20-4 in the final 9:52 to earn the 64-47 win.
The Peacocks opened up the first half taking a 13-8 lead following a layup from Mostafa off the assist form Samantha Meier (Manalapan, N.J. / Manalapan) at the 12:33 mark. Siena used six straight points to take a 14-13 lead.
Saint Peter's regained the lead at 9:27 following a triple from Rebecca Sparks and it extended it with a basket from Talah Hughes (Beacon, N.Y. / Beacon) to lead 18-14. Siena took back the lead following a 9-0 to lead 23-14 with 4:40 left in the half. The run was started by five straight points from Coles.
The Peacocks stopped the drought with a pair of free throws from Bridget Whitfield (San Diego, Calif. / La Costa Canyon) to cut in the lead. The Saints countered with a basket from Donohue to extend their lead. Saint Peter's scored three unanswered points to finish the half and only trailed 25-23 heading into the locker room.
Whitfield finished with seven points and four rebounds, while Antonia Smith (Bronx, N.Y. / Dwight School) recorded six points, two rebounds, three assists and one block.
Saint Peter's wraps up the regular season 4-25 overall and 4-16 in league play. The Peacocks will be the 10th-seed in the 2015 MAAC Tournament and will open up Mar. 5 against 7th-seeded Rider. It is the second straight season that the Peacocks will open up the tournament against the Broncs. The two teams split in the regular season, with each teaming on their home court. Game time is set for 11:30 a.m.
