Canisius Downs Saint Peter's Men's Basketball, 69-55

BUFFALO, N.Y. – Canisius defeated Saint Peter's 69-55 in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) men's basketball action on Sunday.

Marvin Dominique (Miramar, Fla./Miramar) paced the Peacocks (13-14, 7-9 MAAC) with 15 point while Chazz Patterson (Brown Mills, N.J./Trenton Catholic) added 10 points off the bench.

Jeremiah Williams powered the Golden Griffins (13-12, 8-8 MAAC) with a career-high 22 points. Josiah Heath added 15 points and 10 rebounds while Kevin Bleeker chipped in 10 points in the winning effort.

Canisius used a strong start to the game and withstood a comeback attempt in the first half and then pulled away in the second half to give the Golden Griffins their six-straight win against Saint Peter's

Canisius jumped out to a 7-2 lead thanks to four points from Heath.

Fueled by four points by Dominique and a 3-pointer by Patterson, Saint Peter's then rallied with nine of the next 13 points to trim the margin to 11-9 with 11:48 left in the first half.

The Golden Griffins answered with an 11-1 run to grab a 22-10 lead with 6:09 left in the stanza. Williams had seven of the 11 points in this stretch.

Dominique responded to score the next six points for the Peacocks to trim the deficit to 22-16 with 4:37 left in the half. 

Canisius then went on an 8-0 run to take a 30-16 lead with 2:45 left and went into the locker room with a 33-18 advantage.

The Golden Griffins started the second half on a 21-10 run to open up a 54-28 advantage midway through the second half. The closest Saint Peter's could get the rest of the way was 14 points.

Tyler Gaskins (Roswell, Ga./Centennial) added seven points for the Peacocks, who had their three-game win streak halted with the loss.

Saint Peter's returns to action on Thursday at home against Monmouth in an hOURglass Rivalry tilt on ESPN 3. Game time is 7 p.m. The theme for the night is Beach Night and students will receive a free water bottle when they enter and beach music and promotions will be run throughout the night.
