The Saint Peter's men's and women's track and field team ran this Saturday in the Metro Holiday Opener at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex in Staten Island, NY.
Nkeka Pinheiro (Ajax, Ontario / Ajax) placed fifth overall in the 200 meter dash with a time of 26.18. The sophomore ran 58.92 seconds in the 400m, leading the Peacocks in the short sprints. Danielle Correia (Freeport, N.Y. / Kellenberg Memorial) ran 8.25 seconds in the 60m dash. Monica Rosales (Monterrey, Mexico / Monterrey) paced the Peacocks with a time of 1:24.18 in the 500m dash. Ennica Jacobs (Union, N.J. / Union) ran 8.89 seconds in the 60m hurdles.
Selena Marshall (New Rochelle, NY / New Rochelle High School) ran 2:22.65 in the 800m race while Jodi Collymore (Middletown, N.Y. / Pine Bush) ran a time of 3:16.50 in the 1000m race. Georgie Nichols (Center Moriches, N.Y. / Center Moriches) set a personal record by six seconds with a time of 10:51.95 in the 3000m.
Hajara Abubakar (Garfield, N.J. / Garfield High School) paced the Peacocks for the jumps, jumping 4.46m in long jump and 10.15m in triple jump. Hasaana Smith (Newark, NJ / Malcolm X. Shabazz) cleared a height of 1.60m.
Shenell Garner (Cocoa Beach, FL / Cocoa Beach) threw 15.09m in the weight throw while Aicha Elola (Jersey City, N.Y. / Lincoln) threw 11.69 in shot put.
Shaka Shomari (Hempstead, N.Y. / Holy Trinity High School) paced the men's team in the short sprints running 7.07 in the 60m dash and 21.98 in the 200m dash. Shomari's time in the 200m set a new Saint Peter's indoor record and was an IC4A qualifying time. Kenneth Brosier (Willingboro, N.J. / Burlington County Institute of Tech.) ran a time of 49.59 in the 400m dash while Jermaine Lascelles (Bloomfield, Conn. / Bloomfield) ran 1:04.44 in the 500m race to post an IC4A qualifying time. Percy Martin Oguike (Woodbridge, N.J. / Woodbridge) ran 8.66 seconds in the 60m hurdles.
Senior Lance Weaver (Piscataway, NJ / Piscataway High School) ran a time of 2:42.38 in the 1000m race while Johannes Guerrero (Jersey City, N.J. / William Dickinson) went 4:54.02 in the mile.
Dominique Ware (Penns Grove, N.J. / Penns Grove) led the Peacocks in the jumps, jumping 6.20m in long jump and 12.91m in triple. Kurt Espiritu (Kearny, N.J. / Saint Peter's Prep) threw 12.53m in shot put.
About the Coach:
• Mike Massone enters his ninth season as the head coach of the men's and women's track & field programs in 2015-16. After serving as head coach of the cross country team for many years, Massone now serves as the director of cross country operations.
• The 2011-12 season saw the Women's team sweep the indoor and outdoor championships, to become just the second MAAC team to ever repeat as both Indoor and outdoor champions after capturing the two titles in 2010-11 as well. The men finished in third place and had six individual champions in both the Indoor and outdoor seasons.
• Massone was named the MAAC Women's Coach of the Year award for each season, and has now won five such awards: four on the women's side and one on the Men's side
