Lauren Behrens Leads Saint Peter's Women's Volleyball To Victory

Lauren Behrens lead the Peacocks to victory this Sunday in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) women's volleyball action. The Quinnipiac Bobcats fell to Saint Peter's 3-1. 

Behrens (Frankfort, Ill. / Lincoln-Way East) was just shy of a double-double with 12 kills, two assists, and nine digs. Kenyale Mcginnis (Irving, TX / Irving) tallied nine kills and seven digs while Marlena Budna (Brooklyn, NY / Fort Hamilton) added six kills, three assists, and seven digs. 

The Peacocks (4-21, 2-13 MAAC) got off on an early lead with a 6-2 run in the first set consisting of kills by Lauren Behrens and Marlena Budna and attack errors by Jen Coffey and Katie Urycki of the Bobcats. Quinnipiac attempted to close the gap with kills by Jamie Termotto, bringing the score to 6-8. An attack error by Elizabeth Kloos of the Bobcats put Saint Peter's up 13-9, followed by a timeout for Quinnipiac. 

The Bobcats (3-26, 1-15 MAAC) returned to the game with a kill by Kat Miller and a service ace by Greta Varvell of the Peacocks, closing the deficit. A bad set by Kaitlyn Sitton of the Peacocks brought the score to 14-13. Saint Peter's began to pull away later on in the set with kills my Amanda Colombo and Kaitlyn Sitton. A kill by Kat Miller brought the score to 19-19, the first tie of the game. Kills  by Marlena Budna and Lauren Behrens brought the score to 23-20, followed by a timeout for Quinnipiac. The Peacocks maintained the lead for the remainder of the set with a final score of 25-21.

The two teams battled it out early in the second set, tying at 5-5. The Peacocks began to pull away with kills by Kenyale Mcginnis and Great Varvell. The teams tied again at 9-9 after a 3-0 run for the Bobcats. The Peacocks retaliated with a 4-0 run shortly after, bringing the score to 14-10. The Bobcats attempted to close the gap with kills by Emma Ogden and Elizabeth Kloos, however, an attack error by Emma Ogden ultimately brought the score to 17-23. A kill by Amanda Colombo from Marlena Budna and an attack error by Katie Urycki solidified the Peacock's win of the second set with a score of 25-22.

The Peacocks trailed the Bobcats early in the third set with kills by Jen Coffey and Sam Alechko bringing the score to 6-2. A kill by Kenyale Mcginnis put the Peacocks within a 2-point deficit later in the set. The Bobcats later went on a 8-0 run. Marlena Budna of Saint Peter's broke the run with a kill which brought the score to 11-20. Quinnipiac kept the lead for the rest of the set with a final score of 25-14. 

Leading the match 2-1, the Peacocks were in the lead early in the fourth set 6-3 with kills by Greta Varvell. The Bobcats tied the game 8-8 later on with a kill by Kat Miller. The teams went back or forth, tying at 11-11 and 14-14. The Bobcats took the lead with an attack error by Greta Varvell bring the score to 18-16. The Peacocks quickly tied the game at 19-19 with attack errors by Quinnipiac's Katie Urycki and Kat Miller. A kill by Kat Miller brought the score to 23-22 followed by an attack error Jen Coffey, tying the game at 23-23. The game tied at 24-24, however, the Peacocks were able to solidify the win with a kill by Lauren Behrens, ending the set 26-24.

The Peacocks will battle the Iona Gaels in their last home game of the season on Wednesday.
