Box Score Fairfield defeated Saint Peter's 3-0 on Saturday in Metro Athletic Atlantic Conference (MAAC) in women's volleyball action.
Senior Lauren Behrens (Frankfort, Ill. / Lincoln-Way East) paced the Peacocks with five kills and nine digs. Greta Varvell (San Jose, CA / Branham) followed with three kills, one assist, and six digs. Kenyale McGinnis (Irving, TX / Irving) tallied five kills, one assists, and nine digs while Kaitlyn Sitton (Brush Praire, Wash. / Prairie) added three kills, 18 assists, and three digs.
The Peacocks started off with the lead early in the first set. Kills by Skylar Day and Kenyale Mcginnis and an attack error and service ace by Megan Thriller of the Stags sent the Saint Peter's on a 4-0 run. The Stags quickly retaliated with a 6-2 run tying the game at 11-11. The two teams battled it out during the middle of the set, tying at 15-15 and 16-16, but the Stags took the lead 20-18 with a kill by Megan O'Sullivan.
The Peacocks called a timeout and closed the gap, bringing the score to 20-21 with a kill by Marlena Budna and an attack error by Megan O'Sullivan of the Stags. Fairfield followed up with a timeout and returned to the action bringing the score to 22-21 after an attack error by Amanda Colombo. The Stags pulled ahead, but a kill by Kenyale McGinnis brought the score to 22-24. A kill by Megan O'Sullivan pushed the Stags to the finish, solidifying their win of the first set at 25-22.
An attack error by Marlena Budna and a service ace by Greta Varvell of the Peacocks gave the Stags an early lead. An attack error by Fairfield's Skylar Day brought the score to 5-4. The Stags then went on a 7-0 run, bringing the score to 13-5. A service error by Sydney Buckley and an attack error by Megan Thriller of Fairfield ended the run as the Peacocks went on a 4-0 run with numerous attack errors by the Stags. Fairfield immediately followed up with a 9-0 run bringing the score to 22-9. An attack error by Chanel Cooper of the Stags, a kill by Kaitlyn Sitton and a Fairfield service ace brought the score to 22-12, however, Fairfield maintained the lead to win the second set 25-13.
Kills by Megan O'Sullivan, Kaitlyn Fisher, and Megan Thriller gave the Stags a 3-0 lead early in the third set. The Peacocks quickly even the score at 3-3 with two kills by Lauren Behrens and a bad set by Fairfield's Sydney Buckley. The two teams kept the score tied at 5-5 and 6-6 before a kill by Skyler Day and a service ace by Kenyale McGinnis put the Stags in the lead 8-6. The teams tied again at 8-8 with a Fairfield service ace. A 6-1 run by Fairfield put the score at 15-10 with kills by Megan O'Sullivan and Skyler Day. The Peacocks called a timeout, which was followed by a 4-0 run for Fairfield. A kill by Kenyale Mcginnis from Kaitlyn Sitton of the Peacocks broke the run. The Peacocks tried to close the gap with a 3-0 run, but the Stags maintained the lead for the remainder of the set, ending with a score of 25-14.
The Peacocks will battled the Iona Gaels in their last home game of the season on November 11 at 7pm.
