Box Score Saint Peter's women's volleyball fell to Niagara and Canisius 3-0 over the weekend. These losses wrap up the season for the team.
Senior Lauren Behrens (Frankfort, Ill. / Lincoln-Way East) ended the season with seven kills and eight digs against Niagara.
Marlena Budna (Brooklyn, NY / Fort Hamilton) tallied five kills, one assist, and two digs while Kenyale McGinnis (Irving, TX / Irving) added four kills, two assists, and six digs.
Niagara (11-16, 8-9 MAAC) went on a 10-0 run early in the first set. The Peacocks then went on a 4-0 run which was cut short by a 4-0 run by Niagara. A kill by Marlena Budna brought the score to 5-14, however the the Purple Eagles pulled away from the Peacocks with a final score 25-10 in the first set.
The Peacocks stayed in the game for the second set, remaining within a five point deficit early in the first set. Toward the end of the set, Saint Peter's went on a 6-1 run, bringing the score to 19-20. After the Purple Eagles went up three, a kill by Lauren Behrens decreased the gap, but Niagara maintained the lead with a final score of 25-18 in the second set.
Niagara got off to a 9-0 run in the third set which was broken by a kill by Marlena Budna. A 10-1 run by Niagara followed and the Peacocks were unable to close the deficit, solidifying the in the the Purple Eagles with a final score of 25-11 in the third set.
The Peacocks fell to the Canisius Golden Griffs (11-19, 9-9 MAAC) 3-0 on Sunday.
Behrens paced the Peacocks (4-24, 2-16 MAAC) with a double-double: ten kills, one assist, and 14 digs. Amanda Colombo followed with seven kills, one assist, and six digs while Kaitlyn Sitton (Brush Praire, Wash. / Prairie) tallied four kills, 20 assists, and eight digs.
The two teams battled in out early in the first set, tying at 2-2 and 3-3, but the Goden Griffs pulled away going on an 8-0 run which was cut short by a kill by Greta Varvell of the Peacocks. Kills by Lauren Behrens brought the score to 10-21, however Canisius maintained the lead with a final score of 25-12 in the first set.
Canisius and Saint Peter's remained neck and neck early in the second set. A kill by Amanda Colombo (Wallington, N.J. / Wallington) brought the score to 8-9. The Golden Griffs followed up with a 6-0 run. The Peacocks later went on a 7-1 run, putting them down only two. However, the Golden Griffs were able to stay ahead with a final score of 25-20.
The Peacocks got off to a great start in the third set with kills by Behrens and Mcginnis bringing the score to 8-3. A 6-0 run by the Golden Griffs put Canisius back in the game, tying at 17-17. Canisius pulled ahead later in the set and maintained the lead with a final score of 25-21.
These were the final matches of the 2015 season.
